Points usage/expire question...want to learn

I have 100 OKW points from 2017 banked to 2018. Our UY is June. So will the points that were 2017 then banked to 2018 expire May 31st 2019? Trying to learn how this works. We go in April 2018 and are already booked from a previous reservation before we bought DVC. thanks!

Yes, those points will expire May 31, 2019!

thank you!!!! Was hoping we could get use out of them and not have to rent them out! I am glad I figured it out and we can start our trips with a cushion to roll some over each year for our spring trip!

Yes, but do be aware that traveling at the end of your UY can be a risky plan. If you wind up having to cancel, you would have limited options and even your 2018 pts would be past their banking window if you cancel after Jan 2019.

Also, if I'm looking at a Nov/Dec trip in 2018, likely more wise to bank and use those 2017 points in Dec. 2018, correct....just in case I would have to cancel/re-schedule the potential Nov. trip?

We really want to go sometime for the Not So Scary party as we just did the Xmas party, but then after that, will likely do mostly summer as kids will be more involved with school.

Be careful with November. That’s in your 2017 use year, so you’ll need 2017 points in the current use year to book any days in November. And, if you cancel those days, you risk losing those points depending on how far in advance you cancel.

Remember that an April 2018 reservation falls in your June 2017 UY. 2017 points will be good beginning Jun 1, 2018 through May 31, 2019.

Dec 2017 UY points are valid for stays from Dec 1, 2017 to Nov 30, 2019. So if you plan a stay with nights in Nov 2018 you will be using the 2017 points as current points. If you banked them then they would only be available for stays from Dec 1, 2018 to Nov 30, 2019.

An FYI if you're booking across your UY (A Nov-Dec stay). You'll have to call in. The online system does not allow that but MS can book and make it one reservation. If you did it online you'd have to book the November part and then the December part. If you did that you would have the option to call and ask MS to combine those 2 reservations into 1 reservation. Or you could book the November nights online and then call and have MS add on the additional nights in December.

april 2018 trip was booked and paid in full before buying dvc, so we wanted to bank the 2017 points we got with this contract to 2018, and use them to book april 2019. originally we wanted to rent them but seeing as they will be good to book next trip we can!
