Points: Transfer before Booking?

Hi

I joined DVC last year, and already have 2 trips in.** So far, to say we are glad we have is an understatement.** LOVE HAVING THIS!

My current Bank Account sits as:

September 2014: 100
September 2015: 140

I am looking to book a stay in early June for ~170 points.

I know I can borrow 70 from my 2015, BUT, I’m trying to be conservative and maintain enough points to keep going each year.** I know I have the option to buy the 24 additional points ($15pp) direct through Disney for this year, and then next year, but looking into the TRANSFER OPTION from another DVC Member.** If I buy direct through Disney, it would be 48 points , or $720 over next few years.* I know this site and other sites have a spot for Renting/Transfer for less than $15 pp, but my questions:


A)**** Is it best to get this 1 transfer done before I book for June in order to get points into my Sept 2014 account, then I book my stay with these points.**

B)***** If I find a person renting or transferring, what would the UY points need to be set at so I could use/or potentially bank?

1. Just so there is clarity, you can purchase those one time use points from Disney only when reserving 7 months out or less from your trip and then only once per use year.

2. If you intend to use transferred points for a reservation, you should get them first. For a June 2015 trip you would need someone to transfer you points from a use year that begins June 2015 or before. Transferred points can be banked after transfer but they cannot be borrowed and thus if anyone transferred to you, for example, Aug 2015 points, they will not be usable for a June 2015 trip.

3. Transferred points do not need to be in your existing use year. They just need to be usable for the trip you want, applying the transferor's use year (see 2 above). Thus, for a June 2015 trip you could have someone transfer to you points from an Aug, Sep, Oct or Dec 2014 use year, or from a Feb, Mar, April or June 2015 use year. You could also get points from Feb, March or April 2014 use year and bank them for use in June 2015; but those Feb 2014 points would need to be transferred and then banked by Sep 30, 2014, the banking deadline for Feb 2014 points.

Transferred points retain their original resort and use year, so you'll need to bear that in mind when looking at using a single transfer over several years. You may have difficulty finding small transfers from another member, as you are limited to ONE transfer per use year, in or out (not both) from your membership. If you can make do using the $15 one time use points at the 7 month window that would be the easiest to do, unless you need more than the 24 points allowed for one time use points per year.
