How many DVC'ers use points for some nights and pay cash for other nights? When making a reservation at my home resort 11 months out, can I reserve Sunday thru Thursday with points and Friday and Saturday with cash? Thanks!

Just bought in but that is my plan. The only difference is that I will go to Sanibel for the weekend to avoid the weekend park crowds.

Yes, you can do this. But I am not sure if the two reservations can be "linked" so that you are able to avoid changing rooms.

Just wanted to say "Hi" to an NJ and DVC neighbor. I was born and raised in Long Branch. It really is a Small World.

JCW - Hello "neighbor". We are looking forward to buying into DVC and I noticed you belong to BCV. Is the monorail within walking distance from BCV? We have two young boys and like to spend time at MK.

Paying cash for weekends is very expensive, and the member 25% discount won't be available 11 months in advance. They offer it to sell unsold rooms, so you have to check more close to your arrival date.

The walk from BCV to the monorail is very long. You have to walk to Epcot, then walk all the way through the park and exit it, then go up to the monorail. That's why there are buses to the MK from BCV - it's much faster. If you do the monorail to get to MK, better allow over an hour - plus remember you'll have to transfer at the TTC with the hordes of non-resort guests coming in from offsite.

As Sue stated, you are better off taking the bus from BCV to MK. The walk thru Epcot just adds to the amount of walking you will do that day.

If MK is a place that you will spend a lot of time, you may also want to consider VWL for the close proximity to MK, it's just a boat ride away, or KT if it's ever announced ;) . We love BCV, and we spend lots of time at Epcot, so it made sense for us to purchase there.

As for the paying cash on weekends, we have never done that. For convenience, we just use points. We factored-in those higher point nights when deciding how many points we would need to purchase.

Whatever you decide, you will not regret it. As everyone here will tell you, we just all wish we had purchased DVC sooner :rolleyes1

I've did a cash night or two at OKW in the past. A 1 bedroom in May was around $320 with tax (this was 3 or 4 years ago) vs 48 points per weekend night. So if you divide it, it came out to less than $7 per point. I never had a problem getting the 25% discount about 3 months out. I did not want to commit to an add-on due to my mom's health problems (I traveled frequently with her and she died in 2005).

Because we don't have a tonne of points we usually pay cash for a friday or saturday night. It's worked well and let us stretch our points beyond belief. We always tend to take family with us and because we don't charge them for anything they've always offered to pay for the extra night or two with cash. Benefits us all!
