Points Shock

Just looked at the points chart for BLT and understand why they implied people with money in there show on the travel channel. Wow there really proud of this place. Even with my two add ons I can only afford a studio. Maybe DVC new direction is the higher end of the income scale.

I don't understand what you're talking about. For BLT, a standard view in a studio - Adventure Season - for a week is only 102 points. That is pretty close to the same in any other WDW DVC resort (except for OKW, which is of course a bargain at 80 points/week).

Keep in mind that the dues at BLT are much less per point because of the higher points per stay.

With BLT you also get a 50 year contract which helps with the buy in cost being reduced. When I bought my BWV contract 11 years were already gone so I only got 38 or39 years on the contact so my buy in cost was higher and the MF at the BWV are $1.40 more than the BLT (for now at least) so the price & point cost really isn't all that bad.

Quick question...are you locked into the same point calender every year?? Do points per night go up?

I have never seen points per night go up they just very from resort to resort. But I'm kind of new at this you might ask someone with more experience.

Ohh sorry I just meant do points go up every year or are you locked in?

Overall points for each resort per year do not change. There is always some reallocation, for example as Easter is a floating date. If one night is increased, others need to be reduced.

Thank you...that is what I thought..just making sure :)

Sorry for the highjacking.

I don't understand what you're talking about.

AKL 1-Bedroom Savanah View in July: 268 points
BLT 1-Beddroom MK view in July: 360 points

AKV Studio Value View in September: 72 points
BLT Stusio Value View in September: 102 points

Understand now?

i looked at the chart... I can only stay during school vacations...normally higher point seasons...well if I go at the end of August like I normally do...from a sunday through thursday...studio magic kingdom view it would cost me 100 points... that is what it would cost to stay at SSR for the entire week...so i guess its not that big of a deal if my DD gets to have a MK view... i would pay the extra cost... just to let her have it once would be price and a memory thats irreplacable...goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes...i hope i get the opputunity to stay...

speaking of point shock...wait til Villas at Grand Californian comes on line. I'm thinking major shock.

I have to agree. After watching this BLT situation unfold, I'm afraid GCV just might be too insane for words. Ugh!

BLT "standard" view is very close in cost to BWV preferred view and AKV savanna. In other words, the point cost for a BWV boardwalk view is about the same as staring at the parking lot at BLT. There are times of year when an OKW Grand Villa is less than 2BR MK view at BLT. And those buying at BLT to be able to get that "low cost" standard view do so with the risk that if you do not call exactly 11 months out all the standards may be gone because those will be only 11% of the rooms in BLT. BLT lake view is 10-20% higher than BLT standard/BWV boardwalk view cost, and MK is 30-40% higher. Purchase price is also significantly higher. Want a 2BR AKV savanna view for a week annually during Magic Season, 360 points, and it will cost you $33,840 to buy in (at $94 a point after discount). Want a 2BR MK view for a week in Magic Season and it costs you $49,140 (at discounted $107 price). if you are having "point shock," it is based on fact.

I was actually very surprised how reasonable and very similar getting a 2 bedroom MKV was compared to BCV/VWL/BWV when using their own home resort points and looking at cost instead of points.

I wanted to look at the real cost verus the points for a vacation at each resort. I choose to look at 1 week in dream season and the price was similar for a 2 bedroom MK view at BLT and a 2 bedroom at BCV our other home using BLT and BCV points respectively.

BCV 2bdrm 350pts * $4.87 MF/point = $1,704
BLT-MKV 2bdrm 468pts * $3.67 MF/point = $1,717

Not much difference, eh?

Now if you use VB points for a BLT stay, that's a whole 'nother story.

There is the inital investment add into the equation but that would be different for each one of us depending on the buy in price. BLT is selling for higher then the older resorts but there are less years as well. Recently we were looking at VWL resales (which has the same point structure as BCV) deciding if we wanted to add-on there or BLT. If I add in the inital investment, spread evenly over the remaining years (I know it's not really that simple, but humor me)...

VWL ($80pp + ~2.5 pp (closing cost))/ 33years = $2.5 pp/yr * 350 pts = $875
BLT $107pp/50years = $2.14 pp/yr * 468 pts = $1,001

Total Cost VWL 2bdrm $1,704 + $875 = $2,579
Total Cost BLT-MKV 2bdrm $1,717 + $1,001 = $2719

Not a huge difference ~$140 especially since threre are lots of variables that can change. Like the BLT's MF could go up after the resort is sold out.

I think the moral of the story is to factor in your MF for the points you are using to really know the cost.

Hey Lisa, if you add in the difference in purchase price, that raises your $1717 number to around $2017 for the life of the contract. Just call it a location premium.

Nah, more then that. That was my $2719 figure on the bottom.

I'll have to look up how much we paid for BCV and VB to compare. I like to forget that initial check. ;)

I just used the numbers a previous poster had mentioned on the difference between AKV and BLT, which was about 15K and divided it by 50.

I wonder if any BLT owners will be mad at me if by total luck at the 7 month window I get a ressie at BLT? I'm an SSR owner who bought resale.
