Points required to make a reservation?

I'm looking to transfer some points to take a trip within 60 days (yes, I have a posting on the Rent/Trade board) but I have a question about the sequence of events.

Can I reserve the room if I don't have enough points in my account, then transfer to cover the balance after I have a reservation, or do I have to have enough points available before I even make the reservation?

Thanks,

- Joe

I may be wrong, but I think the points must be available for the ressie to be made. I know they make you "borrow" points if you're short before they make a ressie.

Otherwise folks could block out rooms without the points, possibly blocking out members that DO have points available, and then cancel later...not very fair.

Your answer make sense, but raises a further question:

Does available include able to borrow from following year? So you could make the reservation as long has you have points you can borrow, then cover by transferring points?

Once points are borrowed, they can't be "unborrowed".

Chuch is right. You would have to actually borrow the points to make the reservation and once borrowed, they stay borrowed.

You must have the points to make the reservation. So you'll need to complete the "transfer" before you can even call MS, unless you want to use borrowed points for the reservation.

However, as others have posted, once borrowed, those points cannot be returned to their original use year. They will expire at the end of the use year into which they were borrowed.

You may be able to get MS to "reallocate" the transfered points to your reservation that was made with borrowed points, though. Then you could bank any current use year points used for the reservation if your banking deadlines have not passed.

Best wishes -
