We are thinking of buying 160 points. Right now we can get a 1 bed room at OKW for 160 points. My question is does the amount of points change over the years? So in a few years will the same room cost more than 160 points? We don't want to have to keep buying more points to get the samething! Thank you.

The points will not go up. They may have to readjust something by a point or 2 but it would drop in another area.
But your 160 will get you the same thing in 40 or 50 years as it does now.So thats one thing you dont have to worry about.

My understanding is that combined number of points across room types, across seasons can not change.

They might move points around, (i.e. more points for Christmas than summer, etc.) but the total number of points does not change.

Hmmm, I thought I answered this already, but I don't see my answer here. The total number of points at a resort can not change, but they CAN re-allocate if they choose to. For example: they could decide that Sunday night needs to be a weekend night, and could increase points for that night. They would then have to decrease points some other day or unit type. In the 15 years of DVC, this has only been done once. In 1996 they did a slight adjustment to weekend/weekday points at OKW.

Thank you - that's good to know. We didn't want to have to buy more points if we didn't need to - only if we want too!!!!!!

Everybody pretty much answered your question.

The only reallocation DVC has ever done was in 1996 when they modified the point schedule for the OKW resort.

My take is that when DVC was first developed, they made their best estimate at a point structure that would balance occupancy throughout all villas and all seasons. By 1996 they saw a need for a slight adjustment.

But the learning they gained from the OKW occupancy patterns has probably helped them develop point structures for the other resorts, as they were built, that probably more closely matched meeting the occupancy goals they needed to balance everything throughout the year.

Considering they haven't made any other adjustments at any resort for the past 12 years seems to indicate they've got it pretty well balanced.

If anyone is interested in knowing just what adjustments took place at OKW, just download my DVC-Chart program (link below). Set it for OKW, and flip back and forth between 1995 and 1996 and you can see all the changes.

P.S. If you want to look at 2010 point chart, or 2012 point chart, or 2057 point chart, the program does that too.....:thumbsup2
