Points Question

Yet another question ---- I am glad you guys are so patient....




Here it goes -

If my next round of points comes in Aug 2004 (which I have not borrowed yet), can I make a reservation today for Sept 2004 for the points I will get in Aug 2004 and Borrow from Aug 2005. Or do I have to wait until Aug 2004.

Absolutely! You make the reservation at the 11 month or 7 month window from when you want to stay. MS will apply thge points from the correct use year. Your stay is definately within that use year so enjoy!

Now that I re-read your question, I am not sure I understand it. Have you banked any points?

No banked points. Assume I have 0 pts now. On Aug 2004 I get 150, and then I would get another 150 in Aug 2005.

Can I make a reservation for Sept 2004 for 300 points now by borrowing the Aug 2005 points or do I have to wait until Aug 2004 to make this reservation.

A little confusing, but I am thinking of buying a 150 point contract just like this.

I believe the answer is yes. When you borrow you can only borrow one years points so you will be at your limit with 300 points, 150 from the use year before you arrive, and 150 from the next year.

August 2004 points would be good 8/1/04 to 7/31/05. Any stay within those dates would be considered 2004 use year. 2005 use year would be available for borrowing within those dates. Everything is governed by your date of stay, not date of reservation.

I don't know if this helps but we joined in December 03. Our home resort is SSR and we have August use year too. We receive our first point allocation Aug 04.

In January I booked a trip for September 04 but was 36 points short and I was allowed to borrow from next year (Aug 05 points)So I have used all my Aug 04 points and 36 of my Aug 05 points.

So unless I have misunderstood, I think the answer is yes.

The answer is definitely yes. Easiest way to see this is to make yourself a use year calendar. This one would be for an August use year.

2005.....Aug 1, 2005 through July 31, 2006
2006.....Aug 1, 2006 through July 31, 2007
2007.....Aug 1, 2007 through July 31, 2008
2008.....Aug 1, 2008 through July 31, 2009
2009.....Aug 1, 2009 through July 31, 2010

Your september vacation will be within your 2004 use year, so you will need to use 2004 year points.

Your regular 2004 allotment will be good for your 2004 use year. You can borrow your 2005 use year points and put them into your 2004 use year. Thus they also would be good for the 8-1-04 through 7-31-05 timeframe.

Note: MS will only borrow the number of points necessary to complete the reservation. You don't borrow the entire amount of points. If your reservation required 250 points, you would use all 150 of your 2004 points, borrow 100 of your 2005 points, leaving 50 2005 year points still available.

Remember, once borrowed, points cannot be returned to their former use year.

You make your reservations 11 months/7-months from your vacation check-OUT date. Making reservations has nothing to do with when you get your points. It is only important that the points are going to be there at the time the vacation is taken. So even though you haven't received any points yet at all, MS will still make the reservation using the points that will be in your 2004 use year by the time of the actual vacation.
