hi all, i just have a few questions, we have ressies already for may in a 2 bedroom at VWL and now everyone but hubby and myself have had to back out, so my question is since it is just us 2 now i would love to do something a little diffrent, maybe stay at the AKL a few nights and the VWL a few nights, what do you all think of the AKL ? we have to stay at the VWL at least a couple of nights because that is our home resort and we have never stayed there yet. would it be smart using our points to stay somewhere other than DVC resorts, or should we just pay cash for the other place we decide to stay? would AKL be your choice or would you stay somewhere else and where would you stay?
hope this has not confused you to bad i am just needing some serious help on this. this is our first trip by ourselves so i want it to be MAGICAL!!!!!!!!
thanks,misty:Pinkbounc :bounce: :bounce:

My suggestion depends on what the situation is with your points. If they are borrowed points and you can't bank them and/or you know you can not go next year, I would suggest using them so that you don't lose them. But if they are current year points that can be banked even after you cancel, then I would save them for a future DVC trip and pay cash at the AKL. The AKL is a great resort but my favorite non DVC is the Poly. Have you looked at changing from a 2BR to a 1BR or studio at the VWL? That would also save you some points for a future trip.

Lets face it, the best use of points is DVC but if you really want to use them at the AKL, then do it. The main idea is to have fun. I have used points for two cruises and had a great time.

I agree, keep the points for future use if they are current points. I happen to love AKL, and I know that the stay there would be magical no matter how you decide to pay for the stay there. We stayed there last summer for $127 per night, and it was wonderful. That happens to be an annual passport rate for the room last year, so we got a great rate, and if you can get similar rates, then it would be silly to use the points for your stay there, unless you have to use them during the current use year. Under no circumstances should you let those points expire, though, so if you can't bank them, use them. by the way, for a magical dinner, try Boma's. It is the most wonderful buffet!!

I'd ask your guide, or call member services. There are a few screwy rules about cancellations. It also depends on your use year and what year the points came from and how much time you have before you travel.
