I hope I can explain this without confusing everyone!:faint:

Next August we are visiting for a month. In Sept I am at the 11 month window and can start making my DVC reservations at my home resort.

We do not want to stay at SSR for the whole month. We have other plans on the weekends (Hard Rock for FOTL passes) and we would also like to experience some of the other DVC resorts if we can get booked at the 7 month window.

My question is, if we book our whole stay at SSR at the 11 month window and are then able to change to a couple of different resorts at 7 months, if the points total is less than that of the whole booking at SSR, what happens to those points?
If they go back and can then be used as normal with regards to banking, then thats great. But if they go back and then have to remain in that use year thats not great.

Can anyone answer that, if you aren't confused!!:lmao:
Thanks.:thumbsup2

Any points borrowed from a future use year would stay in the current year they were brought into. Sorry

The book says "If the new reservation uses fewer Vacation Points than the original reservation, the remaining Vacation Points, including borrowed Vacation Points, will be returned to your account in the Use Year in which the reservation falls." This assumes that you make the change 31 or more days prior to check-in date.

I would think then, though I have no personal experience with it, that any non-borrowed points could then be banked into the next year if you wanted to do that. Obviously, if you borrowed points in the first place to make the SSR reservation, you couldn't then bank them back into their proper year. But they should be the ones first used/kept with the original SSR reservation or the new reservations so I wouldn't expect that to be a problem.

At your 7-month window, should you re-book from SSR, any difference in points in points will be returned to their original UY.

We currently have 196 points with a June 08 use year. We will be banking all of those to use for our Aug 09 holiday. We will be using some of our June 09 points to add to those to give us all of our DVC reservations for Aug 09.

So I know that all of those banked June 08 points will be used, I will make sure MS uses those first when making my reservations. But the extra points we are using from June 09 is what I am concerned about.

I do find it very confusing.:faint:

So if my reservation comes to less points then they have to be returned to the June 09 use year and used within that use year? If so then thats no good to me.

If thats the case I will have to book the nights I want at SSR and hope and pray I can get booked elsewhere for the rest of the time at the 7 month window.:wizard:

I am hoping this is correct as this solves my problem if true. As long as the extra points from my June 09 use year can be banked then I am sorted.

Can anyone confirm this?:confused3

If you change the reservation within the banking window then you will be able to bank the 2009 points. Since you can bank those points until the end of Jan. you should be fine.

As long as the waitlist (if there has to be one) comes through within your banking period, those points which were originally '09 could be banked.

Fabulous!:thumbsup2

Thank you very much for your help.:worship:

For your June 2008 Use Year points, the banking deadline is January 31, 2009. For an August 2009 vacation, you'll be at your 7-month booking window in January. This will make it tight, especially if any of your requests need to go on a waiting list.

Unless your changing from SSR to OKW or a value room at AKV, though, there shouldn't be all that many points left over if you'll be booking the same room type at each resort.

Actually, with the way you described it, those extra points are in your June 2009 UY and would be able to be banked in June 2010. I thought you were trying to say you were going to be borrowing from 2010 UY and therefore any points borrowed from 2010 would have to stay in 2009.

For points in the June 08 UY to be used for August 09 vacation they will need to be banked anyway so you can do that now :)

With your June UY, and a September vacation, you won't have to worry about a banking window! You'll be able to bank any of those extra '09 points.
I hope you can get a reservation at a resort that you'd like to try.

I knew it was confusing!!:lmao:

Ok we have just got our June 08 points and we intend on banking them all to use for our Aug 09 vacation. All of these points will be used regardless of where we stay.
However, we will need to dip into our June 09 points, more so if we book the whole vacation at SSR. If at the 7 month window, ie Jan 09 we are able to change to different resorts, the whole SSR booking costs around 30 points more than the resorts that we want.

So as long as I can put those points back into my June 09 use year and bank them, I am ok.:thumbsup2 I just didn't know if they had to be used within that use year if they were returned to it.

Does that make any sense to anyone??

On a side note. What if I just booked the nights I actually want to stay at SSR 11 months out and waited for the 7 month window for the rest?
What are my chances of getting AKV, BWV, OKW and VWL at the 7 month window in August?
We would ideally like to stay at a few different resorts as we are there for a month and have no problem changing resorts.:thumbsup2

Right, I now officially have a headache!:faint:
