I am looking to buy about 180 points which would give me a 1br for five nights each year. My question is how much do the points requirements go up each year. WOuld I have to keep adding points to keep doing the same thing each year?

the points required for a particular time can go up - but some other time must go down.

the total points can not change.

Not if you stay in the DVC collection of resorts. Points for Disney Collection (WDW, DL and DLP resorts, DCL) and for the other non-Disney collections do go up annually.

a lot of things went down in points this year a disneyland hotel, disney cruise went down in points but most likely they will go up a little every year, except the dvc resorts which have to stay the same they can bring one time frame up but they must bring another time frame down. example at ssr the average night stay for a studio is 16 points. they have to keep that average of 16 points

Think of it this way. If you were to calculate how much it would cost to rent every single room in a DVC resort for every single night during a year you would come up with a total number of points which we will call X.

DVC can change the point totals, adjust some up and some down, but in the end renting all the rooms for every night in a year still has to equal X, the same X from above. So the total point cost for every room for every night must always be the same.

I believe that DVC only changed point costs once and that was years and years ago. It would be very complicated to do, to come out with the exact same total cost of points, so the point cost for a given room size in a given season is not apt to ever change

DVC has only reallocated points one time, in 1996 for the OKW resort. And even there the changes were minor.

Since then they have a much better feel of how the points should be allocated. Thus the point structures for HH, VB, BWV, VWL, BCV, and SSR have never changed since those resorts opened. And OKW has never changed again since 1996.

The cost to purchase a point goes up significantly from year to year. The cost the maintain a point sometimes goes up a bit each year. But the number of points required to book a room tends to remain stable over the years because of the constraints described above. So 200 points (for example) should get you pretty much the same amount of room in the future as it will today.

for your minor - for me major

taking studio points up from 7 point to 8 points - took out one of my trips.... Adventure and Choice Season went up, Magic and Premier season went down.

even worst the weekends got the best benefit in the Magic and Premier seasons.

only the weekend went down in dream season.
