Does anyone know if there is a way to get an estimate of the points necessary to trade to a timeshare in the World Passport Collection? I'm just in the very early stages of thinking about doing this and would like to get a rough idea, without starting the process in motion. If I call MS, will they be able to give me an estimate, or do they have to actually find a match to know how many points it will take?

I'm thinking of going to Rhinefield House, in Hampshire, England, during the Red season. Is there a way to figure an approximation out for myself?

Thanks.

I just spoke to MS about a trip to Hawaii too. They were vey helpful at giving me a range of point values for my trip.

Thank you, Robin. I took your advice and called MS. The CM was very helpful and explained to me how I can figure a range of points that will be required. I was surprised to learn that the resort I wish to trade to does not have a direct impact on the points the trip will cost. She also explained that all of DVC's seasons except Adventure are considered equivalent to "High" season for other timeshares. That was good to know.

It's really not as complicated as it sounds.

Thanks again...

For Rhinefield House in Summer and HI (except about 3 weeks in Oct) assume the same size unit at OKW for Dream or Magic. You will not be able to ask for the 3 BR units at RH but if you search for a 2 BR, it's possible (but not likely) they will give you a 3 BR. The trouble with England is that it's a fairly short season assuming you're looking at summer. HI has relatively fews 2 BR units and the other problem through DVC is that the top 2 resorts (Marriott's) will go to Marriott owners first even if they are off season Marriots owners.

I've had a search in for HI for next summer now for around a year already (2 years out) and have had essentially no activity. They incorrectly offered Kona Coast but we didn't want that island. Otherwise, no activity. I have listed for a 1 BR for both Marriott's, One Napili, Sands of Kahana, Hanalei Bay and Lawaii Beach. I would have listed the Intrawest but they only have Sunday starts and that didn't work for us.

Since then I've had private offeres, exchanges offered through II and SFX and also availability through another small exchange company at the Schooner and LBR. Robin, if you want LBR or Schooner, contact me directly and I might have some additional suggestions for you.

Thanks for the help, Dean (I was hoping I'd hear from you.) Would April or May in England also require Dream or Magic season?

I don't know for certian but would guess not. I'd suspect it'd be adventure season. MS should be able to tell you for certain what qualifies though they can't tell you what will be available to give up when the time comes. Email might be the easiest way to ask the question. Just simply ask what season qualifies for X resort (or location) and MS should be able to easily and directly answer that for you. If they don't the first time, ask again.

I did ask when I had MS on the phone, and she said they couldn't really tell. I think because of the availability question, she didn't want to commit to an answer. She did make it clear, though, that all the DVC seasons except Adventure were "high."

When I get closer to finalizing plans, I'll be sure to ask again.

I'm not sure the best use of your points would be to stay in the UK. I think you would get a better deal booking direct as there are a number of offers everywhere given the current climate. I think if you ring Rhinefield House direct you will get a surprise, just ask them for their best rate, but remember, whilst the hotel does look idylic on the photographs, it is only a 3 star and perhaps there are better around without the Disney price tag.

Anyhow, I hope you have a great vacation over here in the UK

Steve

They can't tell you how many points but can tell you what DVC season qualifies. From II standpoint, all DVC at WDW is red time and the break points for bright red vs pink is Adventure vs Dream season.

Synonymous,
Have you ever considered renting the points you were going to use and taking that money to reserve a resort or hotel in the regular manner? We have found a lovely place with the National Trust (plus we are supporting a very worthy cause). This option was recommended to me by someone on the DIS UK board - you really can find some wonderful deals around right now. Just think - a castle by the sea, a haunted pub, a B&B overlooking some wonderful monument, the possibilities are endless - the only hard part is choosing where to go... Oh I am so excited about our upcoming trip!
Check out this website: www.nationaltrust.org.uk

P.S. Hope it is okay that I posted this

Thank you for the great ideas, folks. My vacation money is tied up in my DVC payments, so I pretty much need to use the points for my trips. I suppose I should consider renting my points, although the idea bothers me for some reason.

Steve- the property does look wonderful in the photos. Sorry to hear it's not as nice as it looks. I'll have to look around some more.

Alysa- thank you for the idea and the link. I went to the National Trust site and it is very intriguing. I was planning on taking my parents, and these places might be a bit too "adventurous" for them, but they look wonderful for me and my DW. They don't offer much info on each location, though. Have you found any further sources on these properties?

Dean, thanks again. With this info, I'll be better equipped to ask the right questions.
