Points for DVC hotel rooms?

Hi all. Just wondering if we can book at Disney “hotel” resorts using DVC points? No DVC rooms available for when we want to go so I am thinking about whether or not I can use points for regular resort rooms?

Just an FYI, The DVC Y isn’t what qualifies points as eligible for use for non DVC hotels, it’s the type of points one owns

To OP, points bought direct or resale prior to April 2012 can be used to reserve them.

However, if you do book, and then have to cancel, those points can no longer be used for DVC stays.

As already mentioned, point cost is much higher than a normal DVC room.

The trade is not worth it, grab a confirmed rental from the board sponsor and then book a rental in the future to rent it and make up the money.

It’s a terrible use of points given the points charts. You are much much better off renting your excess points for cash and using the cash to book the room you want.

Just to add to this. We are Y or blue or whatever it is now. But we bought after the 1st round of restrictions. We can not use on those rooms or cruises. Not a good use of points either way. If direct or before 1st round, then you can use them for this.

We bought direct in 2000 so we’re good on that. The entire place is unavailable except for a few cash villas and rooms. Too crowded for us and there is no way we are going to pay thousands for 4 nights anywhere on property ever. Not with being points owners this long and not having to pay for rooms…even by renting points and paying cash. We will look to go elsewhere altogether.

Book the hotel on cash and waitlist the villa that you want on points. Also, keep checking for room availability every day. I've been checking every couple days and rooms do come available.

I would look for a discount. There was a 25% discount for DVC members booking a resort hotel. I'd also check the Dolphin. We did book a Carribean Beach room with points. We booked 4 nights for 98 points + the $95 dollar fee. Once you do it there is no cancellation (if I am remembering that correctly). It was a nice room and a preferred view.
