Points expiry

Please forgive me if this is an obvious question, still a newbie.....waiting on ROFR of a contract with April use year with 122 banked 2012 pts and 240 2013 pts (not banked). Trying to work out some possible trip options if the sale goes through.....just wondering when the 2012 pts would expire....could we use them to book an April 2014 trip or do they need to be used by March 2013...I guess my question really is does the trip have to actually have taken place in order for the points to not expire or could they be used to book a trip (before expiry deadline) that is after the date they would expire?

April 2012 points banked Ito 2013 are good for stays from April 1, 2013 though March 31, 2014. That's it because they can't be banked again.

When you book is not relevant, only when you stay.
