Hello again,

I have another noob question. How often do the point charts change from year to year? Example this year in Adventure season a Deluxe Studio at AKV runs 69 points. Will DVC raise that to 71 for 2014? I am just trying to figure out how many points we need.

Thanks again,
Bill

No...typically points are the same year to year for each booking season. The calendar will be adjusted to fit Easter and thanksgiving as the dates change each year. But no, if a January vacation costs 120 points this year, it will again next year.

Now points reallocations can happen and have happened in the past. For example, weekdays used to be far less points than a weekend. What happened was more people were booking weekdays than weekends so they adjusted to points to lower fri/sat and raise the weekday. The number of points needed to book a villa for the year MUST stay the same. So if they raise points to stay in the summer, they must lower them elsewhere.

There was a recent points reallocation for SSR and BLT. Some of the theme park view rooms had no theme park view at all, just a view of the monorail and parking lot. So they lowered the cost of those rooms to standard view. With the room costs lowered, they had to raise them somewhere else, so they this a fairly good job spreading the extra points cost around to all categories through out the year.

Points reallocations are rare and are only done to correct a flaw or adjust for supply and demand. If rooms are getting filled a certain time a year, you could see points at that time get lowered and raised during a peak time to even out supply and demand. DVC goal is to fill all rooms year round.

the total number of pts (including every villa for every night of the year) for each resort is fixed and cannot change.

here's some history for you. you can see some of the reallocations in the links below:

2014 point chart for OKW

original pt charts from 1994 for OKW (thanks to webmasterdoc).

if you wanted a 1BR at OKW for 7 nights in may 1994, it would have cost 200 pts. if you wanted a 1BR at OKW for 7 nights in may 2014, it would cost 199 pts.

20 years later and your pts still get you the same value. how's that for no inflation?

OTOH, if you wanted a studio for 5 nights sun-thurs in early december, your 35 pt stay cost in 1994 has now increased by 43% to 50 pts. weeknight stays have taken a hit...but if you just stayed 2 nights on a weekend in early december at OKW, your 34 pt stay in 1994 dropped a bit to 26 pts.

if you typically stay for 7 nights, i doubt you'll see any big changes (although early dec is popular enough that it won't surprise me if they move it to a different season.)

timesharing definitely involves a risk of change. that's true. but for the most part, just buy a few extra (5-10%) and that should cover most of the small reallocations.

Due to the reallocations our family requires about 30 more points per year.

The THV were sold as "getting 3 bedrooms for the point cost of a 2 bedroom". As soon they sold most of the SSR/THV points, Disney raised the required points to stay there.

They also gave owners the opportunity to buy one time use points to make up for any point shortage.
