Points at Atlantis?

DVC took Atlantis off the CC list previously and added the timeshare (Harbourside) back on maybe a year or so ago.

That's right. I just tried to do the exchange with II for Harborside Villas but was told by MS I would have to go on a waitlist b/c there was nothing available for june/july/august of 2008. :furious: Well later on a very nice dis member who also owns Starwood(which is the Harborside timeshare)told me that the owners there can't do exchanges until the 12 month mark. I have my fingers crossed. :)

Hopefully you started your ongoing request so that when things start coming on board, you'll be near the head of the line.

Oh yeah - I paid the $75 and had them start the search. Hopefully it will turn out okay and I'll be one of the first. They also said that there is one 2 bdrm that sleeps 8 adults and one that sleeps 9 adults which is quite larger. They said that I could get either one it just depends which comes up for trade. MS said if I wanted the bigger one and the smaller one came up for me then I would have to pay another $75 and start a new search at the bottomof the waitlist.
Well I have 9 adults going so I hope I get the big one b/c I don't think I'll get into another one if I start another search not to mention another $75. That just didn't make sense to me. Oh well, not everything makes sense to me anyway. :teeth:

Unfortunately, if you did a second search, you might get the smaller one again. I know they have 2 BR units in the first and second phase and 3 BR units in the second phase I believe. I don't see anything other than a 1 BR and 2 BR listed with II and I know the lockoff's are two 1 BR put together with one being much better and larger than the other. You should find a knowledegable owner there and see if you can figure out any way to tell when they call you with a match then you'll know what is what. They may be able to give you the unit number of the match if you press them. Ultimately though you'll likely just have to accept a 2 BR and hope for the best. The resort can always change it on you anyway though in this case that may be good because you can contact them and ask for the change you want if you get a match.

So after I get a match I can call the resort and ask them for the larger 2 bdrm. Do you think they will switch me over? It would be great if that were the case. Hopefully I can avoid all that and just get the bigger one to begin with! :thumbsup2

Yes, you could do that. As to how successful you're likely to be varies for each resort and I don't personally know about Harbourside in this regard. You could even match the larger unit and they might give you the smaller one when you arrive they have that right and some resorts routinely function this way. Remember with DVC and most timeshares you can only search with the private sleeping capacity, for DVC this is 6 for a 2 BR, not the unit capacity of 8. Lets say you matched at a resort that had sleep 6 and sleep 8 two BR units and remember the II website is not always totally accurate including for Atlantis. You told DVC you needed for 8 people and the unit you matched originally would work for 8. But when you arrive you were given a sleep 6 unit and told to squeeze in or even worse, denied the unit because you were over capacity. BTW, these are real life situations, not simply technicalities. They are simply some of the uncertainties of the exchange game.

How many points are required for an exchange to Harborside? My brother has been thinking of staying there and has looked on www.tug2.net for a rental. He did find out that if you stay there you are eligible for the meal plan from Atlantis.

I would assume Mid season late April through Mid Dec and High season the rest. It's possible that High season goes beyond the traditional time for the Caribbean so you'd want to call DVC to make sure. Worst case scenario is 160 pts for a 1 BR and 270 pts for a 2 BR currently. The problem with trading for a 1 BR is if you get the smaller side, it's not worth it but if you get the larger one, it likely is very worth it.

BTW, DVC is still negotiating with II and doesn't have a set longer term contract in place right now.
