Points and Season change question in 2004

Hi everyone. I am sorry if these questions are repetitious or sound dumb, but since I just closed on a resale a couple of weeks ago, I do not have a member book with the 2004 point charts etc. yet. I understand that there are no changes from the 2003 point charts for the DVC resorts. If this is so, I see that the Adventure season has the lowest number of points. In 2004, Labor Day falls within the Adventure Season, does that mean that the first few days before and on Labor day still cost the least number of points? For those of us whose schools do not start until after Labor day, I thought this might be an advantage. Also, if you begin your stay at a DVC villa during a higher point season but then go into a lower point season, do your points adjust to the change? I know that seems like a no brainer question, but I know from the past if I booked a moderate hotel and we started our trip during the regular season and finished during the value season, they did not adjust the rate to the cheaper one. I guess then we would have had to checkout and checkin again. Does DVC work that way too or do you get charged for what ever points are for that particular day?

Because you book every night separately, you pay for that night based on the season in which it falls. We often come to WDW a day or two before NYE and stay through the first week of January and we pay premier season points until Jan 1 and then we pay adventure season.

As far as the seasons, yep! Labor day (and the entire month of september) is in adventure season. I think the fact that weekends cost so much more than weekdays makes it unnecessary to break labor day out into one of the more expensive categories since a "long weekend" is not a real efficient use of your points. Memorial day weekend is not broken out of May either. The only weekend that is significantly different than the weeks around it is thanksgiving weekend.

Points will be computed for each day of your stay based on the point needs for each individual day and not on the date the stay begins as with cash reservations. If your stay begins in August and ends in September, the point costs will be adjusted accordingly for each day of the stay.

For onsite resorts, Labor Day has always fallen in a time with the lowest point costs.

The dates for Adventure season at the WDW DVC resorts are
Jan 1-31, Sept 1-30, Dec 1-14. This does not change from year to year. The dates that change each year are around Easter & Thanksgiving.

Points used for DVC stays are based on each individual night. If your stay spans 2 seasons, you are charged for each night individually according to the season it is in. It does not work like WDW reservations where the same rate is charged for the entire stay based on the first night's rate.

Doc: Yes, thanks, I know Labor day falls within value season at all the other resorts. It is just that we usually start our vacation the second to last week of August (regular season) and end a few days before Labor day (value season), unless we stay in a Deluxe, like last year, and the whole trip is in value season. Thanks so much for the info.

Now, I have to rethink this summer's vacation. I thought we were going to DL, and visiting friends in CA, but now I am wondering if we should take advantage of a late Labor Day in 2004 to save some points. Afterall, we only have 150. Decisions, decisions, wait until my DH hears this one. He thought it was settled.

Here's a vote for going the week of Labor Day. We did this in 2001, got home two days before 9-11. I have fond memories of walking on every attraction. There was rain, but we also had some great pool days with no crowds. Imagine having your pick of tables at SAB! I hope we get to do it again some day, DD is in mid-school now and it's impossible. WE have done Labor Day week a couple of times, but I have to say the heat and rain do NOT make it my favorite time to visit! We much prefer January for the same points.

Hey, Dancind! We were there at the same time -- still on our Disney "high" when everything happened. It was just before we bought DVC (did that in December of that year). I do remember thinking it was a great time to go for crowd levels, but WAY too hot for my taste!

i like Sept - yes it is hot - so is May, June, July and August - but that makes swimming more enjoyable.

the parks are not crowded - and best yet - my nephew and niece get a fall break during Sept - so we will definitely be there alot in Sept.
