DW and I were talking about how we almost bought KW when we were first married 15 years ago.
Any one know what the price per point was then?

We now own at BWV

We bought in 1992 and paid $51 per point, plus got free park admission until the year 2000.

wow, free park admission! how did that work? was it just for one person or everyone in your party?

It was for 1/2 the capacity of your room. Studios and One Bedrooms got two passes, 2 bedrooms got 4 passes, and GVs got 6 passes. They were, basically, Length of Stay passes.

You had to be staying at OKW on points.

Man....that's a great deal. I feel like I'm getting hosed now. :headache:

There were certainly marketing reasons to offer those of us that purchased DVC in the early years great incentives.

There were no guarantees of other DVC resorts, timeshares classically had a poor reputation, the high end timeshares were just starting up, and Disney had no idea how well a Disney timeshare would sell.

We purchased 15 years ago thru DVC at $56 per point (we were also able to purchase resales at $50 a few years later). The free park passes were included for those who purchased until about 1996 - they were the incentive for early OKW buyers and also for very early VB buyers. By the time HH and BWV began sales, the passes were no longer offered. They were a great incentive and very appreciated thru the end of 1999.

Here is the complete history - as compiled from DVC sales literature and from posts on this forum over the past 10 years:

We bought OKW in 93 for $56 per point. We got the free passes until 2000.
I also remember borrowing our 2000 points and going in 1999 and still received free passes.:cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

We bought OKW in 1997 and paid $51 a point after our stay at the Polynesian was deducted from the going rate. We missed out on the free passes.

We bought a 300 point OKW resale in 1997 and paid $50 per point. As a bonus it came with 170 banked points. The passes were part of the contract, so we were able to get three years of free park visits. It was a real shock when we went in 2000 and realized how much park admission actually cost!

Thanks for your list. You may want to add our purchase in June of 1992(June use year) at $52.00 per point for 230 points. :goodvibes

Doc, everytime you post that I want to kick myself for not buying in when we first heard about it and thought about it!!! We started the thinking process in '91, took the tour in 94 and purchased in '97. ARGH!!!! The money we could have saved on park passes alone would have paid for it, but as they say, hind sight is 20/20. I guess we should be thankful we purchased when we did.

Talk about kicking yourself.....we bought @OKW and backed out within the I think it was like 60 day period where you could change your mind and pull out....we changed ours so late we had to overnight the paperwork.....years later we bought from Randy Kruger... the same guy we had backed out on a decade prior, LOL .

I remember considering buying at VWL in 98 when I was still single. At the time I thought I wouldn't go enough or have to force myself to go. Now 10 years, a wife and 1.5 kids (second one due this August) later we just bought our 2nd contract at SSR.

Oops :) That'll teach me to think in a logical manner!

DW and I bought 210 points in February 1994 for less than $50.00 per point on my brother's CM discount. 14 years and 260 add on points later, we still think it was a great deal for us. The park passes until 1999 were a real bonus except that they were not good for the Animal Kingdom when it first opened.

We bought 300 points at the newly re-named OKW in early 1996 and the free passes had just ended. The incentive at the time was a 100% credit for your Disney hotel cost (not including taxes - room only) up to $3K. I was at the Yacht Club for a convention for a week in a suite, so the end result was a net cost of $53 a point with work paying the discount :) .

Seems like so long ago, but compared to some of the other posters on this thread I'm a latecomer!!

Does anyone know what the prices for a hotel room looked like back in 1992, or how they have increased since '92? It is interesting to see that the cost per point has doubled, while the relative initial investment has increased by about 50% since the initial offering.
(50% increase is based on an initial minimum investment of 11K, based on 16.6K today)
Regards,
Mike

hi bought 350 points in 93 for 52 per point and got the passes. We used them all and never lost a point in all that time. I have never regretted buying (only when I can;t get a reservation) Usually my own fault on not booking early enough. Bought 350 at boardwalk in 2003 right before they sold out. So will be looking at adding 350 at the contemporary when it is available. Do people think there is a best month for use year.

Actually, I just found a cash receipt for the Contemporary from 1991. 7 nights, two adults, including a length of stay pass was $2254. This was for a MK view tower room. Figuring $400 for park tickets, that would be about $1854 for the room, including tax. This was in May, so regular Season. Today, room only is $465 per night, or $3255 + tax or about $3440 +/-

An increase of 85%

I could kick myself!! I called DVC, received the literature...Partitually read it, I do not remember anything about Free Park Passes until 1999. We had 4 kids for some of at time frame at home then. Then when VWL was being built I wanted to buy it so bad...finally did in 2006. Now, we have no kids at home. We have just returned from a trip, it's still fun. ;)
