Anyone know of a website or chart that can calculate/show the value of your points vs rack?

I could plug in everything manually and try to find the best point "bargains," and "overpriced" pts.
But im looking for an easier way.

Ie. value AKV 9pts jan 2 rack =313 so your point is worth 34$
3 bedroom = 75pts jan 2 rack =1744 so your point is only worth 23$.

Thanks so much

Just did most of the rooms at akv and the points are all about 20-23$. For 01/02 adventure season.

Do the cash prices you quote also include the resort tax of 11.5% to 12.5% that would be charged for a non-points reservation?

Sent from my phone. Big Deal :-P

I don't know but if you find one please post! Very interesting

See, I don't find this a terribly compelling way to look at costs at all. "Only" $23 to get three bedrooms, a living room, full kitchen and full laundry vs. the "better deal" $34 studio? Just because the studio 'costs' more doesn't mean it's worth more, to me.

*Maybe* if one were to look at how many points one specific room type would be across various resorts in relation to rack rates, but even then you've got the oh-so-personal calculations of which resort(s) do you like and are any of them your home resort (which may be easier to get into at the time of year you want to go.)

I did something like this for two resorts, just to see how value per point varied across the year. The post is here:

Interestingly enough, it can actually be cheaper to pay rack rate than rent for some rooms at some times of year, generally 1-bedrooms in the summer. And studios are always a good deal relative to rack (or renting).

I wouldn't really use the information to plan my vacation...it's just interesting.

When I was trying to explain to my parents and in-laws about DVC, it's hard to explain what a point is worth since they change throughout year and for room accommodations. We are renting points to my parents for a January 2014 trip and they are getting an amazing deal compared to rack rate. (AKV studio standard view @ Kidani)

I agree--just because my "point" is worth more or less wouldn't change when I go or where I stay because a point is a point is a point....we base out travel on either cheap flights or time off work and go from there. I would stay at BWV or BCV over SSR for location even if the SSR was twice the point "value".

Problem is disney's prices are not static, they change constantly.

They actually publish their rack rates for the whole year about 6 months in advance. There are about a dozen or so rate periods, some as short as a few days, but you actually can check the price of a Disney hotel well in advance. And they stick to those rates, at least if you just call or go online and get a quote.

Their discounts vary from time to time based on how many rooms they have left to sell. If they have a lot, the discounts cover a wider range of dates and are larger. If they don't have many rooms left, the discounts are smaller with more exclusions and they often sell out of discounted rooms.

Some rooms have never been discounted, AFAIK. Like the family suites at Art of Animation or all 3-bedroom Grand Villas. They get rack for those rooms pretty consistently.
