Point Transfer Question

Hi Gang,

I am going to need 20 points for a trip I plan to take in October 2005. I plan to find a member that wants to transfer these points to me. My question is this: I want a 2BR standard at BWV (my home resort), which, during the Flower and Garden Show, might not be easy to get if I don't use the 11 month window.

I am confused about how soon I can get these points transferred to my account so they will be available to use when I make my reservations this November. Can someone please help me out? I thought I was fairly DVC-savvy, even thought I just joined this year, but this one has me confused for some reason.

I don't know if this helps, but here goes - we are members as are my in-laws. We plan on taking a trip in October 2005 combining our points but using mostly my in-laws points.

I called MS this week and asked if it is possible to transfer some of our 2005 points to my in-laws so they are available for them to make a reservation in November 2004 (the 11 month window). I wasn't sure since they are not banked or borrowed, but we are not currently in that use year.

MS told me that this can be done, but it is a manual transaction that requires some paperwork and can take 24 to 48 hours. They recommended I do this a few days in advance of the 11 month window so the points are available for my in-laws when they call to make the reservation.

You'll also want to make sure that the points you end up with are valid for an October, 2005 stay.

I thought the Flower and Garden Festival was in April / May...

This is where I go into brain freeze--for points to be available for a 10/05 stay, wouldn't they have to be points from a November '04 or later use year? Or am I wrong about that? From what I understand you can't transfer borrowed points.

If I am correct then the question becomes when can I transfer points to put into my account from someone with a November '04 or later use year? Do I have to wait until they are alloted this November? Or does the person I transfer from just have to tell MS that the points are coming out of their November '04 use year and then I can transfer them any time? Could I do it tomorrow if I find someone?
