I tried looking back regarding this and I know this has been discussed to death, but since the search function is not working I need to ask this.
My SIL changed her vacation from over Easter (hope someone here scored to the waitlist) to May due to the death of my FIL. She is now asking us for points, as MS would not do anything to help her out- not even the 1 time exception - but I'm not sure she knew aobut that but anyways, How does this process work? I'm not sure if we actually have the points to give her due to the allocation changes that happened for 2009. I know we have some developer points, but those are not transferable. Could someone please tell me how this works. I've been kinda brain dead for the past couple weeks.
Mods- feel free to move this if this is not in the right forum.
Thanks so much

Why bother transferring, just make the reservation for your SIL with your developer points.

You're right that you can't transfer your developer points.

One thing to consider is the number of points she needs. If she needs enough points for a whole night, maybe the previous poster's idea will work best, and just book her the night with your developer points.

If she just needs to make up the difference of a few extra points for their last night, it would need to be a transfer.

The process itself is simple. You just get her membership information from her and call Member Services. Explain to them that you want to transer some of your points to this other member, and tell them which of your use years you want it taken from. The transfer is a permanent transaction.

The whole concept of use year gets confusing if the two of you have different use year starting months. There's some inconsistency in this process as to whether the points retain their original home resort and use year when they're put into your sister's account. They're supposed to, but it doesn't always happen. (I don't know if Disney has made any changes to the system to fix these issues, but the problem usually works to the member's advantage in any case.) That said, while it is possible to bank transferred points, it is not possible to transfer banked points. So, if your sister's vacation falls in your next use year, you should transfer the points first, then let her do the banking if needed. Or you can transfer your next year's points instead if that's better for you. (Sorry, I know that paragraph was probably more confusing than helpful.)

Keep in mind that each member is only allowed one transfer (in or out) per year. So, by transferring the points from your account to your sister's account, you'll both have used up your only transfer for the year. If she's going to eventually "repay" these points, it would have to be in the next year.

Your sister's other options are to rent a reservation from another member, or pay for a cash night. Remember, each night of a reservation needs to be entirely cash or entirely points. If the cash reservation is made through Member Services, it can be linked with the points reservation. There's even a possibility of getting the 25% discount on the cash night.

Did her points go into holding, or do they expire between Easter and May? I don't see how they could have expired, since there's no May use year. Can you explain more about what exactly the trouble is?
