Point transfer frequency.

Does everyone have enough points to go around? How do you fill in the gaps? Is transferring points the best option? When you transfer points in they keep the same characteristics as if original owner still had them? ie., UY, home resort, can they be banked....
Does it make sense that if you could use the points and the are the right UY and are bankable, at $10-11 pp seems like a bargain? Has someone done the financial breakdown on this?
