Hi, all -- sorry to repeat a question that's probably been asked a few times (couldn't find the answer when I searched, though) .... what's the new policy on posting rentals? I'm not seeing the old rent/trade board--thanks!

If you are posting a points for rent thread, you have to have at least 50 non-R/T posts. Starting Feb 1, you have to have 50 non-R/T posts spread out over the last six months. You aren't allowed to post 50 "me too" posts in a few days either. They have to have some substance.

So you had better start posting if you plan to post your points for rent.

just saw that ... thanks ... only 20 "non-me-too" posts to go. I'm sharing my hard-won wisdom far and wide. Thanks for the note!

Nope, you have at least 43 to go. You only have 7 non-R/T posts to your name.

If you get them done by the end of the month, you should be ok. The new rule starts Feb. 1st, then the post have to be spread out over 6 monthes. Keep posting and good luck.

I too need 50 posts. But can I get some extra credit for exceptionally good ones?

But you might only be able to post until Feb 1 - because your posts aren't spread out over 6 months. Good luck. Depends on the generosity of the Mods.

To clarify some of the Feb 1 changes:

If you have an existing thread on the R/T board, it will remain open until you close it, or stop maintaining it. Once that thread is closed, you must meet the new posting criteria to post a new thread.

As of today, if you are lacking 42 or more posts, you will not have time to post make-up posts and have them on the board on January 31. We are only allowing an average of 7 posts per day to count toward the criteria, and there are 6 days until January 31...so not enough time to make up that many posts. The total that can be made up will drop each day between now and January 31. If you can not make up the required number of posts, you will need to meet the new criteria, over the next several months, to post.

The "Where is my Thread" thread will not be updated after January 31. We will no longer be using the database/processor created by Caskbill. This is not due to any problem with the program, but Microsoft is saying that after Windows 7, they will no longer support the VB6 language. Meaning that the software won't run with future Windows releases, so we are converting to a manual system now so we have time to work with it before Microsoft changes to the next Windows OS architecture. This also enables all R/T Moderators to look at and approve thread throughout the day, as it eliminates the requirement that only one of us has the active database on their system at anytime.

The "Where is my Thread" thread will remain viewable for a week or so, and then be soft deleted.

There will no longer be automated PMs, as those are a function the processor program. You will need to locate and bookmark/favorite your thread, or use the board search software.

Threads will be manually closed when they reach the point of not being maintained/bumped. We still request that those threads be bumped once per week, and we strongly suggest you keep using the established thread titles, it will help avoid confusion. Once you have completed your transactions, also please continue to change the first word of the title to CLOSED.

Overall, the majority of the changes will be invisible to the R/T Board users, with few actual posting rule changes.

Ok--just so I understand what's meant by "must have consistently posted on non-Rent/Trade DIS boards over the course of the previous 6 months" (from the rules post), if I get those 42 posts done before Feb 1, the fact they were all entered in the last 6 days of the month will negate any "credit" I get for them, so finishing out the quota of 8 more posts in the couple of days after that won't do anything for me.

Is there a concrete number of posts per day, week or month that will qualify as "consistency?" I'm sure you've thought this through--you tend to be pretty systematic in these things, and leaving too much of it up to case-by-case personal judgement won't serve anyone.

Thanks again for your clarification!

There is no such thing as an "unwanted member." Everyone is welcome to post, read, browse and lurk in all other areas of the DIS Boards.

The Rent/Trade board was never envisioned to be a massive clearing house for DVC Rentals on the Word Wide Web. The intent of the Rent/Trade board has always been to to have a place where regular, actively posting DIS Community members can rent out their extra points, or unneeded reservations*. This creates an active posting history which we encourage potential renters to review before entering into any transaction. It also, in our opinion, helps to lessen the chance of a scammer who may not even own DVC points from taking advantage of our board members. Scammers are likely not to invest the required time, they are looking for fast, easy money.

These changes were posted on all 3 DVC boards, as well as the Rent/Trade board back in November, and the announcement threads actively bumped since that time to be sure as many of our posters as possible were made aware of the upcoming change.

*Once the reservation check-in date is within the 30 day Holding Status timeframe.

What we are looking for is an overall pattern of active participation during those 6 months. We realize there may be some weeks where someone can not post at all because of traveling, family emergencies, and so forth.

We have agreed upon a minimum criteria, but will not publically post the minimum requirement, other wise we would see the same type of pattern we are currently seeing, people meeting the minimum requirement whenever they want to rent their points, posting on the R/T board, and never seeing them again on the non-R/T boards until they want to rent points again.

Sure, 2 posts per week over a 6 month period will defintely qualify as "consistency" and will meet the intent of the policy.

Enjoy! :)

So is my understanding (above) more or less accurate? There's no need in my finishing my 50 post quota over next few weeks to be able to post my points for rent?

I understand the goal, I just think you're acing-out perfectly legitimate members who use the board in a less active way, not looking for advice or sharing opinions, but neither looking to scam anybody. I've been showing up once a year like clockwork for eight years or so, offering references and completing rental transactions with completely satisfied members.

That said, I know I'm not the piper, I just want to make sure I know what the tune is. Thanks again!

(And thanks also for your read, Doc--I'll put those posts on my calendar and see how it goes. Hope we're not graded on quality! One of the reasons I've not posted more is a general lack of enough expertise to seem useful to the community!)

You are correct that finishing out the current requirement will not allow you to post before February 1st, and it will not add to the posting pattern we will be looking for after February 1st. But you are certainly welcome to continue contributing your opinions and experiences to the many threads on the DIS. We have a large, active board community covering all aspects of Disney, not just DVC, and a basic Community Board where you can post about most anything within reason, keeping our overall DIS Board Guidelines in mind.
