I am very interested in point rental for my next visit. I've just started looking into this. How do you guarantee a safe transaction? I would love to hear from people who do this regularly from both ends of renting the points.

You might want to begin with the **How to use this Board** - Please read before posting thread near the top of the Rent/Trade Board. There are some great suggestions for potential renters about protecting themselves. Most members will expect payment in full well before the arrival date since DVC point reservations do have some restrictions placed on the members. Each transaction is negotiable and you are working with an individual where flexibility is a two way street. Reviewing past posts of the DVC membre, asking for (and checking) references is a good way to verify a few things about the member and having contact info (home address, phone number) can also be helpful -especially before sending any money to someone who is otherwise a total stranger. Trust is a critical component of these transactions.

Keep in mind that you are NOT really renting any points - you are renting a reservation from a DVC Member made using their DVC points. They will control the reservation right up until you check-in at the resort (when it finally becomes your reservation). Any requests and changes (Magical Express, Dining Plan) must be added by the member prior to arrival.

While we have had very few problems of the years with DIS rental transactions, due diligence is a wise component of these dealings.

Another option would be to consider David's rental service - www.DVCrequest.com - a DIS advertiser.

Good luck! :)

Make sure you are always the one to initiate contact regarding a reservation purchased from a member made using DVC points. Now that you have posted this thread you may get private messages or e-mail regarding your desire to "rent points". Ignore those. That is one way that cheats work their way in. Might be some very legitimate members trying to sell a reservation, but you just don't know for sure.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll start lurking on that board and see what info I can find out. We just got back from Disney so it'll be later in the year before we go back. I just happened to see a post about someone using points on another board and started checking it out.

Very good point. I'm just starting to investigate this process, but it sounds like such a good idea.

Be aware that people do book DVC well in advance and the fall is a really popular time. Just wanted you to know that the closer to a trip that you try to book, the less there will be in terms of availability, especially at resorts like BLT, BWV, BCV, and VWL.

The timeshare store rents for only $12 per point. I personally booked a last minute reservation and was able to rent for $8 per point.

Its a pretty safe way to rent, but cheaper than the other brokers
