I read the long thread on renting points and the value of the points.
I don't wish to debate the weather people should rent their points, but I wish to make the following observation and give my opinion.
I took my family of 5 on the 7 day Disney cruise from 2/24 to 3/3. I compared the use DVC points required compared to paying the best rate I could find.
In this comparison Disney is determining the worth of the DVC points to be $10/point.
Given the risk of renting points for an on site resort, no maid service, early reservation requirement and more ridged cancellation policies it still seams that $10/point is a bargain compare the prices of disney's other resorts.
I also think that your average bargain hunter does not plan 11 months in advance so they can readily take advantage of this. So maybe the rental problem is overstated.
I think Disney is very aware of the point rental value and has more controll over it than we realize.
