We are looking into buying resale. Is there a site where I can view how many points we will need to purchase for the time of year we go and the room size? We will always need a two bedroom since we are a family of 7 but we go different times of the year.. I also want to try some different resorts, next trip we would love to stay at a monorail resort, preferably GF. I'm just not sure how many points I should be looking into buying for us to go every other year which will allow us to bank and borrow.

One more question.. For example if we purchase 200 points can we buy additional points in a few years?

Yes, of course! :)

25-49 points: Must pay in full at time of purchase.
50+ points: may opt for Disney financing.

One should be able to buy later but it may be at a high price and may not be at the preferred resort. Ideally one would make a good decision up front and have at least some cushion. Unless you're looking at premier for a significant portion of the time you're likely looking at 350-400 points for a 2 BR for a week a year. For that number I'd investigate and come up with an overall master plan that included 2 contracts at 2 home resorts, then I'd break it down with a single purchase in the 200-250 range resale then give it a try and see how things go then update the plan. I'd also plan to do a 25 pt add on to give the perk/discount options. I'd buy the most important or most difficult to find contract first in this scenario and the retail portion second in all likelihood. So you might end up with a 200 pt contract at say SSR and 150 at AKV and 25 retail at AKV or SSR for example. All preferably the same UY for most people.

If you want to stay at the GF, you should really own at the GF and book at 11 months out. It can be tough to book at 7 months during certain times of the year.

For some resorts, Disney has no points to sell and no waiting list (I believe GF is on that list) so resale would be your only option.

(And just to clarify: If you own at 2 different resorts, you could not use pts from the 2nd resort to book the 1st resort at 11 months out, or vice versa.)

I've used Disney's site listed below for checking resort point needs. There is an interactive point chart calculator to use for each location.
