when you buy a dvc are you locked into the points for the resorts for the rest of the time.

i was told the big reason to by a dvc was to lock in your vaction cost.

but the room points go up each year?

and if the points are locked in when you buy- what happens when you resell?

does the new owner get the same room rates?

Hi, greggville. The total points required to stay at DVC can never increase... by law. This means if there is an increase in one category of room, there must be an off-setting decrease somewhere else. This will hold true no matter how many times the contract is re-sold. Of course, maintenance will increase every year, as would be expected.

The number of points for DVC resorts is set. DVC may reallocate point requirements to better balance the system, but the overall total cannot change. Therefore any increases must be offset by decreases.

DVC locks in a significant portion of the cost. Maintenance fees do go up each year, but generally at a pace slower than Disney room rates.
