I'm planning a big vacation next year with extended family (bad idea, I know).
The vacation will use up nearly two years' worth of our points.
I'm therefore planning to use all of next year's points, then borrow from my 2012 points to complete the reservation.
Like many people do, I'm planning to make a reservation at my home resort at 11 months out (to make sure that we have a place to stay), then switch to a different resort at 7 months out. However, the other resort reservation actually requires one point less.
So what are my options? It's my understanding that I'll either end up with an unused borrowed point, which will expire at the end of my 2011 Use Year, or an unused current year point, which could be banked into 2012.
When I switch resorts at 7 months, hopefully I can get them to ensure that the leftover point is a current year point instead of a borrowed point, so that I can use it in 2012.
Do I have this correct?
Also, if my family were ever to cancel on me (assuming I'm more than 30 days out), it's my understanding that because borrowing is a final transaction, I must use the borrowed points in my 2011 Use Year, but that (after canceling the big reservation) my 2011 current year's points could be banked into 2012. Do I have this correct?
Am I missing anything? Thanks!
