I asked earlier about POR...We are an extended family with AP's. We visit often (several times a year) in different configurations. But we all go together for Christmas week every other year. Usually we stay at YC\BC as we love Epcot and the pool, etc.

BUT: We are all doing a lot of Disney travel this year and are looking for a less expensive Christmas trip. We did Coronado the year before last and were a bit disappointed (we had done it years before and enjoyed it.) So now we are looking at PO.

Since we will be an extended family with multiple rooms, we are wondering if the smaller size of POFQ would work better for us than POR? How is the theming? Does it feel "magical"? And if (cross your fingers) the weather is right at Christmas, could we use the POR pool even if we are staying at POFQ? Give me the positives!!!

:lmao:cool1:

Yes, yes, yes. You will love it. I love the size of it, the ambiance, the decor. Yes, you will be able to use the POR pool. It's a nice walk over or you can catch the boat over if you don't won't to walk. I love both POR and French Quarter, but FQ is my favorite. I enjoy the singer in the Scat Cat's Club from Wed. thru Sat. nights. I hope you enjoy your trip. I don't believe you will be disappointed.

We loved POFQ; it's our favorite and we will go back, although we decided to try Pop this year. POFQ has such a relaxed atmosphere and everything is convenient. The theming gives POFQ a classic Disney feel. It's New Orleans in spirit, but minus the "earthier" attributes of the real thing.

When we went the rooms had not been refurbished, but we had no complaints then. Now that POFQ has been through a rehab, it will just be that much nicer. My kids like the CSR pool better, but they were happy with POFQ, and as you said, you can use POR if you prefer it. We always use the boats to Downtown, not necessarily because they're faster or anything, but because it's different and more fun than a bus or a car. We also like the food court and the choices we had there.

POFQ consistently ranks high with Disney visitors. Obviously, some will like it and others not, but for us it was perfect.

It's our family's favorite moderate. We love it.

Why?
* Smaller in size
* Relaxing music in the streets
* One bus stop
* Everything is in one spot
* Bus to DTD
* Food court - standard (sit near the tv if you have kids)
* Pool has a slide

Enjoy!!!

You will love POFQ!! POFQ is my favorite moderate resort! :love: I love everything about this resort. I love the theme.. pool.. food court.. the relaxing boat ride to Downtown Disney. The first one to get on the bus and first one to get off from the park. I like strolling down to Riverside, and take the boat back. I like the simple fact if my kids wants to swim at Riverside, they can because POFQ and Riverside are sister resorts. We can also eat at their food court. I even liked the main bldg where you check in... The music they play.. I love the pathways and street signs.. I don't know what it is.. but POFQ screams DISNEY to me! :)

We've stayed at several resorts, including Beach Club, Boardwalk and Grand Floridian. That said, we absolutely LOVE Port Orleans French Quarter. We love it for several reasons:

1. Small size is easy to navigate
2. Relaxing boat ride to DTD
3. Great choices and quality in food court
4. Competent, friendly staff
5. Beautiful theming and setting
6. Quiet, calm atmosphere
7. Best bus transportation in the World
8. Excellent mousekeeping

I could go on and on, but I'll finish by saying that the completely refurbished rooms are awesome. I can't imagine that you would be disappointed with POFQ.

POFQ is my favorite resort of all. Have stayed at all 4 mods, 5 deluxes, and Pop, and absolutely love POFQ the most.

Like the size of it (small), like the food court (although POR is my fav food court), like the boat to DTD Disney, like the location of it, bus service is pretty good (from my little experience with it), LOVE the refurbished rooms, like the quietness and quaintness of it, there really is nothing at all that I dislike about it.

We will be at POFQ for Christmas! Thanks to you all, you really helped solidfy our decision. I think the smaller size will work well for us, as well as the ability to use the pools at POR. Though I will miss our beloved YC, I'm excited to try something new.

Thanks again!!! :worship:

I guess I am the one who doesn't particularly care for POFQ. It was the first resort we stayed at on property. To me it was just so bland and quiet. I didn't really enjoy our stay there. Since then we have stayed at the GF, AKL and POR (twice) and loved all those resorts but just did not care for POFQ. This year we are staying at CSR. Hope we like that one.

Oh no! Oh well...we'll give it a shot and see how it works out. Have a great trip!

Our trip to POQF is coming up so soon! I'm still a bit sad we won't be at YC. Though I know a POQF won't compare in terms of deluxe amenities and location....get me excited! What do you love about POFQ??? How's the entertainment in the bar? Is the boat to DTD cool?

I loved this resort! The boat ride to DTD is so nice and and relaxing, and once we walked past the bus area back to the resorts and it was madness, we skipped that and had a leisurely boat ride instead. There's an older woman who works the bar at the pool who had tons of funny stories and jokes to keep everyone sitting at the bar amused too, if you find yourself at the pool swing by there for some cocktails. She was great at listening to what drinks I liked and making cocktail recommendations too!

LOVED POFQ!

It is a quaint resort that is just delightful. I was worried that it would be "boring" for our two little ones after staying at POP, but they both loved it there. I must say, I do like the food court and pool better at POR but it is a nice little walk over there. We did it many times with two little ones in tow. The musician in the lounge I agree is AWESOME!

We have stayed in building 7 both times which is the furthest away on the map, but it is soooo close. It was closer to the lobby than a preferred room at POP.

We can't wait to go back in Jan!

I LOOOOOOOOOVE POFQ!!! It holds a special place in my heart as the first Disney resort I ever stayed at. I was in building 6 with a river view. It was so quiet! I really liked the size of the resort and the bus service was great. We also really loved the little boat that goes to DTD. It's such a relaxing ride. I imagine the resort is even nicer now after the refurb. I think you'll really enjoy yourself. Have fun!!!

We love the grounds and the fact you can walk up to POR to use their pools.We usually go to DTD for dinner if we have no ADRs.The boat is a nice change from buses.
We usually walk up to POR in the evening to see Bob Jackson's show a couple of times during our trip.
Plus the pool bar has Shelley who is one of the best bartenders we have had anywhere:thumbsup2
We like the location so much that the only other Moderate we would consider is POR;)

Hi OP! I was in your exact same position earlier this year. Wanted to fit in an extra visit with our APs during Easter week and resort rates were crazy - peak holiday season rack rates. At that point, we'd stayed in all three categories of resorts, but exclusively deluxe for the previous eight years. And BC is my favorite resort. So I was a little hesitant about going back to a mod, but I just didn't feel those holiday season rack rates at the deluxes were a good value. So I took our youngest for a few days on the way back home from my parents' condo. We booked POFQ until the discounts kicked in, and then transfered to YC for our last night.

Here's my take: POFQ is a great mod. It may be my favorite of the mods. I love the small size, the grounds are quaint, the food court isn't crazy (and I'm not a food court fan), the gift shop has a nice selection and the CMs were friendly. The renovated rooms are cute, clean, and well done. I loved how close the bus stop was to our room in building 2 (helpful when carrying a sleeping 5-year-old back to the room from the park!) But I was really happy when it was time to transfer to YC at the end of the trip. The biggest differences between BC/YC and POFQ for us were: 1) I missed having our own balcony while staying at POFQ; 2) Transportation - lots of bus time at POFQ - good to MK in the morning, but not so good to Epcot for dinner ADRs in the evenings; 3) I missed the deluxe atmosphere - interior corridors, lobby, the lake, the quieter air conditioning; and 4) Beds - too bad POFQ didn't get the down comforters like CSR (but the renovated rooms are otherwise very nice for a mod.)

So I say all of this because I was excited to try POFQ and was not disappointed. But I think part of the reason I had such a great time is that I felt like my expectations were reasonable. I didn't expect POFQ to be comparable to a deluxe. I expected it to be a great mod that cost less than 1/2 of the holiday season rack rate for a deluxe - and it was! I hope you have a wonderful stay there, too!

Glad o jar you liked it there. We are staying 10 nights in January. Going back to YC for August trip. But because we go twice a year, some trips are moderate. ESP in winter. We usually stay at POR when we go moderate but wanting to try FQ.

Great thread! Please keep the review coming! We finally decided to switch to POFQ last weekend when it's 10 days out to our trip! We usually stay at POP but I hope the bus situation at POFQ will be better during the busiest holiday time of the year! Plus I really want to try the beignets.:rolleyes:

DBf could really use a trip to relax and I think the queen beds sounds more attractive than the double beds in POP, plus POFQ was the resort that we stayed on our first trip that we went together!
