Long story, but because of Hurricane Francis, we couldn't get across the bridge to get to our in-laws in St Augustine on Sunday, so after spending a frightful night in the last room available in a horrible hotel with a clogged toilet, a hole in the wall and no power, we drove to Disney and arrived Monday morning at the first resort we came to completely tired and frazzled without reservations and POFQ was absolutely wonderful!!! They not only gave us a room immediately, they only charged us $79.00! I almost cried right there I was so relieved. (Thank you to the sweet lady from NJ who saved my place in line while I ran after my son who made a dash into the gift shop while dh was distracted from finally reaching his parents on the phone who were fine.)
When I went looking for ice a little later, I ran into a group of CMs who were handing out care packages. I asked one of them where the ice machine was and he said, "I have no idea, I work at the ToT, we're just here to help out the resort, but I'll help you find it." Well, my 4 yr old son thought he was coolest guy in the world to be working at the ToT and I couldn't believe that he just didn't leave me to find it on my own, LOL...this is when it hit me that we were going to have a great vacation after all!
We were scheduled to arrive two days later at the WL, but after getting settled into our room which was spotless and seeing how nice the resort was and how easy it was to get around, dh said no way was he going to pack up and leave. I called down the next day expecting a big hassle, but a very polite manager named Dante said he'd take care of it and call me when our new room keys were available. We were given the same rate of $79 which left us a nice credit to splurge with.
As we were leaving for DD around noon, we saw about 5 people cleaning the pool and a whole crew cleaning up a palm tree that had fallen. Again, we felt like we were in a different world than the dark boarded up area with fallen trees everywhere that we had just come from.
I loved the feel of this resort, very quiet, romantic and peaceful, but not pretentious. The Mardi Gras theme was fun, but not in a cheap way. It just felt comfortable to us. We were in building 5 overlooking a beautiful green courtyard with a fountain. The room was just a stairway down to the pool and a short walk to the lobby. There was a quick path around the back of the building to the bus stop, and parking was a breeze. It was a great location!
The room was prettier than I remembered from the pictures I'd seen here, and the beds were comfortable. We liked the ceiling fan and having the privacy curtain. There was lots of room in the bathroom area for ironing and getting ready. The shelf above the sink and along the wall made it easy to stay organized which I loved. We didn't have a remote for the tv, but we received one within minutes of calling the front desk.
We only had bagels and fruit from the restaurant in the mornings, but there was just about everything you can imagine available and the cm's were friendly here also.
I was a little disappointed that we didn't stay at the WL, but we've never stayed there before so we didn't know what we were missing (if anything) and there's always next time. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any questions. I'd love to give a little back for all the info I've gained here.
