POFQ vs. Coronado

Hey guys,

So my family is planning our trip to WDW for Christmas this year. We went for xmas 09 and 10, but skipped last year due to me starting a new job. We went for a wedding this past April and stayed in Coronado. Coronado has been our hotel of choice the past few WDW trips, but we have noticed that the quality of stay has gone down a bit. Maid services seem to be slacking, and we're ready for an overall change of scenery. My sister and mom seem to have their heart set on the Port Orleans or Boardwalk. Port Orleans seems like the favorite right now. The Riverside does not seem to have queen size beds, however, so we are opting for the French Quarters. I was wondering if anyone can recommend the POFQ, and give me some differences between Coronado and the POFQ. Some things I was wondering was:

- How different are the rooms? (Bigger, smaller?)
- Bus stop proximity to rooms?
- At Coronado some of the stops seem further from rooms.
- Lobby/Eatery from room
- For some rooms and areas are Coronado, it feels like you need to walk
about a mile just to get breakfast
- Food quality
- Never a complaint about the food at Coronado- only the lines at the
quick mart (no organization)
- Anything else that makes POFQ stand out?

Thanks!

Having stayed at both POFQ & CSR, I do feel they are very different in their own ways. First, POFQ is not nearly the size of Coronado and that is one big thing I love about POFQ. No matter what room you are in, you will be close to everything.. pool, main building, boat dock to DTD and bus stop. There is only one bus depot at POFQ but they do sometimes share with Riverside. When I stayed at both POFQ & POR, we never had to share busses but it can happen but FQ gets picked up and dropped off first.

I think the rooms at all the moderates are the same size, and they both have queen size beds. You will not have a long walk to the lobby or eating area at POFQ whatsoever. The cobblestone streets are very easy to get around and you cannot get lost. I remember staying at CSR, and our room was in the Ranchos section and it was hike to get anywhere at the resort.

Just to clarify (since it was not mentioned above) that POFQ does not have TS dining; for that you would still have a bit of a hike, to POR's restaurant. (But, as was noted, vs. CSR you have the DTD boat, which changes the dining equation. Also as noted, both are newly refurbished with queen beds.)

Riverside does have newly refurbed queen bed rooms. We stayed in one last Aug, they're very nice. We were in Acadian House, great location next to quiet pool.

I prefer POR to FQ for better food court, pools (FQ doesn't have quiet pools, so everyone is at main pool), & beautiful grounds.

I wouldn't say CSR is gone down, poor housekeeping can happen at any WDW resort. Sadly some just don't do a good job. If you find your room not being cleaned well, you should phone housekeeping to tell them there is a problem.

Fortunately for me, I've always had very good housekeeping no mater which resort I've stayed at.

Thank you everyone for the responses. Yeah, I didn't meant to make the housekeeping sound like the forefront problem- we just really want a change and to try something new.

We are also looking at the Poly and AKL but that would take some real lobbying on my part to up our stay to a deluxe hotel..

My family and I used to love going to the TS at CSR for breakfast, so the Riverside would be a huge benefit. That's awesome that they have queen size rooms available now - my mom and sister will be very happy to hear this!

Web only stayed at CSR and have not stayed in almost two years (been at DVC properties), but are going home to CSR for our first ever Christmas time trip. :goodvibes

We have not stayed at any if the other moderates, but have visited them all a number of times. If we could not get CSR and had to stay moderate, Ricerside would be the only one we would even consider.

As for housekeeping, it is ALL resorts getting bad reports.

But I agree with change...we loved our two DVC stays.

I'm sorry to say that I think the TS at POR is open only for dinner. (Coming from CSR, you are going to experience a decline in on-site dining (quantity, not quality!))

We were at CSR in March and the TS was not open for breakfast. We had our breakfasts in our room and at the Pepper Market which is now a buffet.

My mistake, I meant Quick service (eating at Pepper Market) not Table Service. Table Service we usually go to places like Boma, la cellier, etc. for.

CSR hands down.

None of the other moderates even come close but my second choice would definitely be port orleans riverside. Port orleans french quarter pool is sorta on the kiddish side and everything to me seems claustrophobic plus no sit down restaurant.

Carribean beach to me just doesn't feel that magical. It's way spread out. now if youre talkin poly or animal kingdom and you have the money to spend I would definitely suggest* that. coronado springs to us we consider it a deluxelite the next best thing.

We love POFQ. The small size, everything easy to walk to, the short stroll over to POR if you want to swim in that pool, or eat at Boatwrights. And the boat to DTD opens up a ton of dining options.

Building 5, facing the grass courtyard (Called Beignet Square) is our fav location. The grass courtyard is great for kids to run around and burn off steam at night, easy walk over to the pool or main building. My DS8 knows his way around, and I'd have no problem letting him go to the main hall or cafeteria to refill his mug all by himself.

We are returning in August, after having just been to POFQ in November, with the free dining promotion, but since POFQ wasn't offered, we are trying out POR. We are familiar with it, from our stays at POFQ, and anxious to try out the newly renovated rooms.

The only other resort we've stayed at was POP in 2007, so I can't really speak to CBR, but I can tell you, if I only stayed at POFQ from now on, I wouldn't feel sad about it! It feels like "home" to us, and that's just fine!
