Three adults, 6 nights... before a stay at YC. The cost difference is not huge, so I am wondering if the upgrade to AKL would be worth it. I have never stayed at either resort and would like some input.

Thank you for your help!!

Yes, deluxe over mod always wins for me! AKL is gorgeous, has great restaurants and is contained to one building which is great for transportation and rainy days!

Thanks to both of you.... I think my biggest concern is transportation. We would rely heavily on the bus system either way, but I just wonder if AKL being so far out if it is more of a hassle.

Have stayed at both AKL and POFQ. My vote AKL any room! The resort is beautiful. Jiko, Boma, Sanna all easy to get to plus the many observation points of the animals throughout the buildings. Easy walk between Jambo House and Kidani Village. Only down side is AKL sits at the extreme corner of property, so, transportation by Bus to other locations like Disney Springs can be a bit longer. If you have a rental car it is not an issue.

AKL being "so far out" is a myth.

POFQ and AKL bus times to everywhere but Disney Springs are very similar. POFQ gets some advantage to Disney Springs, since they get the boat and aren't dependent on the buses.

Bus to any park from POFQ is about 25 minutes. Bus to MK from AKL is about 30 minutes, 25 minutes to Epcot, but less for HS and AK, obviously. So it really isn't that different.

The only upside POFQ has to AKL is location. If you don't mind a few more minutes on the bus then I would chose AKL. It is a beautiful resort with great food!

I'd go with AKL! It's beautiful with great restaurants :)

I agree with both of the above :thumbsup2.

As far as transportation and AKL being out away from everything, we've had nothing but great experiences. Having stayed there twice and visiting every trip to eat at Boma, we've found it to take maybe 5 extra minutes to get around compared to other resorts. Also, since the buses only service AKL and Kidani, there's no sharing with any other resort(s). If it were me, I'd go with AKL without hesitation. Good luck!

AKL! Stunning resort. There are so many awesome places to check out animals, art and other cool stuff I wouldn't worry about a Standard view. I would jump at the chance to stay there again over POFQ. Add the lounge, fireplaces, Boma, Sanaa, Jiko .... wouldn't even blink.

I totally do not understand the "way out" talk. They don't share a bus, you are next door to the AK, down the street from Epcot, DHS and a little further DS. And basically once you get to AK all highway to MK. We never had any transportation issues from there.

Sometimes I think Disney folk become so blase to some of the truly unique experiences at WDW, AKL being one. I don't know of another hotel in this country that you can walk out the lobby door, sit on a balcony or look just past the pool and see large exotic animals.

I've stayed at both and loved them both, but would go for AKL. It really is so unique and beautiful. I also don't get the complaint that it's so far out of the way. The night we arrived at AKL last June, we hopped on a bus to MK. From what I'd read I was expecting a really long bus ride and was shocked how quickly it felt like we arrived. Honestly, the only bus ride that felt very long was the one to DS. And, to be honest, when we stayed at POFQ we ended up having to take the bus back from DTD one night and that felt like the worst bus ride of the trip (had to wait forever in the depot with guests from POR as well because the boats shut down, then drop off at POR before arriving back at POFQ). Either way, I think you'll be happy, but I would definitely go for AKL.

I can't understand why soooooo many people make it sound like you need to pack a lunch and you have time to take a nap while riding from AKL to one of the parks. It will take a few minutes more, if you want to make the rope drop just leave a few minutes earlier. As many have posted already, it is a beautiful resort with a lot of great choices for dining.
