Hello all. We will be staying at POFQ for our upcoming April trip. This is the only moderate I haven't stayed at before. For those of you who frequent the resort: Is there anythig special you like to do upon check-in or for your first evening there? Are there any special touches that you may not know about unless you stay there often? Any input would be great!!!:goodvibes :goodvibes

You can also hop/walk over to Riverside and check out Bob Johnson the piano guy at the bar/lounge. This was my first year seeing him and he is GREAT and very fun! He has a very family friendly show, if that is your concern. I think he is only there from Wednesday through Sunday, but don't quote me on that.

I second that one! Wish I had some right now too!

I too will hop in board with this one! I have actually found the recipe online and made them, but it just wasn't the same. They were good, but not as good!

I had a long response typed out at home before I left for work ,but then I lost it!

They offer a carriage ride, but we've never taken it. Might be something fun and relaxing to do! As a kid, we always loved the pool and slide. One of our first stops! As an adult, I love the hot tub. It's tucked away in a corner surrounded by ivy covered arches. It's very relaxing especially after a long day at the park.

I also greatly enjoy the boat ride to DTD. It too is very realxing and you get to see the new 'tree houses' they are building further down the river. You also get a beautiful view of DTD.

Enjoy! We just love POFQ!

Awsome! These are wonderful suggestions. Thanks guys!!!

Our first thing is to sit down and have some beignets.

That is what I am looking forward to the most! This is the only mod we have not stayed in (not from lack of trying) and I cannot wait to try these little suckers!

I for one was very disappointed with the beignets.
They taste nothing like the real ones in New Orleans.
The ones at POFQ resorts are tough and very yeasty tasting-
but the real ones are light fluffy and tender.
But if you don't know any better, I guess it doesn't matter.

We enjoy hopping on the Boat to DTD after eatting at the FC.
Have a fun trip.

Hmm they've never been tough or have a yeasty taste when I've had them... wonder if you got a bad batch of dough?

There's always the horse carriage ride as well, POR has it don't know if you need to head over or if FQ has it as well?

The carriage rides start from the POR marina, but that's only a pleasant 10-minute stroll over from French Quarter.

just got back, ate beignets at all times.....

I've had the ones in NO, and I mean, I think they are pretty awesome here.....there is always a chance that any restaurant might be off, so I hope you give them another shot......

If the beignets don't do the trick, try the homemade ice cream cookie sandwich. Mad with two scoops of ice cream between two homemade cookies of your choice!!!

We like to ride the boat to DTD the first night. On occasion, we've gone swimming and last year...we went to MK because DD wanted to go so bad!

We've only been once.. but are planning on going again next September.. last time I got a picture with the gators that are on the walkway towards the pool on the first day.. I think I might recreate that one when we go again in 09 :goodvibes

The beignets and carriage rides are signatures of POFQ

Does anyone know if they do anything special for Mardi Gras? We are planning a trip Feb 24-26 and will stay at POFQ if they are celebrating.

Can anyone tell me about the carriage rides or where to find info?

Where do they start where do they end.

Thanks so much.

Horse-drawn Carriage Rides

Take a relaxing, old-fashioned horse & carriage ride through the beautiful and serene woodlands and pathways of the Port Orleans resorts. Your private ride commences at the Port Orleans Riverside marina dockside (just behind the lobby building) and takes you on a slow and romantic journey along the banks of the Sassagoula River to Port Orleans French Quarter, where you will turn around in its quaint New Orleans-style streets for your return journey back to Riverside.

The cost is $35 including tax for the 25-minute set route and the carriage can hold up to four adults, or three adults and two small children (children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult). You should arrive at the marina no later than 15 minutes before your scheduled departure time and wait for the carriage to collect you. The service may be cancelled in cases of inclement weather.
  • Departures are every 30 minutes during scheduled operating hours, which are normally 5:30pm - 9:30pm. There is usually a short rest break at 7:30pm so that time slot may not be available.
  • Reservations are recommended and can be made up to 90 days in advance on 1-407-WDW-PLAY (1-407-939-7529). A credit card is required to confirm but this will only be charged for no-shows or cancellations at less than 24-hours notice.
  • Guests wishing to check on same-day availability may call 1-407-824-2832, and walk-up guests will be accepted at the departure location if there is no pre-booked reservation for that time slot.
  • Final payment should be made directly to the carriage driver in cash. Credit Cards are not accepted, but you may charge the ride directly to your room by using your Key to the World key card.
  • Due to the nature of the carriages they are not wheelchair accessible. Guests must be able to exit from wheelchairs and step up into the carriage.
