Hi there,

I have some questions for our stay next year.

We are from Europe and this should be our 4th stay at WDW. We have stayed in POR (2 times) and CBR (2 times). We always visit in the first weeks of May. But now we see that the first weeks of May are much more expensive than the first weeks of August. Does anyone maybe know why May is more expensive?

And the next question is. Should we go to CBR or POFQ? Does the Skyliner really make the difference? We also love the boat to DS 😅!

Thank you very much!

Sorry can’t answer your first question. I would go with POFQ since you have never stayed there. You can always take a ride on the Skyliner either from Epcot or HS to see what it is like.

August is low season. Aug and Sept are probably the cheapest times to go. Early May will definitely be more expensive, but weather will be much nicer than the Aug heat!

We just made a very similar choice between these two resorts and ended up with CBR. By next year when you travel, all the rooms at CBR will have had a recent refresh (new paint, new floors, new softgoods, etc.) which will make them one of most fresh moderates. I also think the ease of access to the Skyliner just can't be beat. We absolutely love it - it feels like a ride to us, and we love the views we get from up there. And nothing beats grabbing a Joffrey's coffee at the CBR kiosk and enjoying it from the Skyliner.
You'll have a great trip no matter what - enjoy! :)

Thank you very much for your reactions!

We thought the first half of August is very busy. Why it is low season? Is everyone already back to school or work?

And I thought that only Trinidad had a refurbishment? Where can I found more information about the refurbished rooms?

August is hot and many schools in the southern US go back to school in August so it's not peak time, it's still crowded but not the crowd level of spring break. Early May is not peak either and typically has a lull in crowds but weather wise, won't be as hot as August. It's still warm in May but not August level humidity. Also, August is peak hurricane season, every day is afternoon/PM thunderstorms. They're usually short lived but pretty standard daily occurrence. And to add, we like PO resorts over CBR. I like the skyliner but I don't care for how large CBR is.

Americans don’t have much vacation time compared to Europeans. Most have none to 2 weeks. Schools resume between mid-August to after Labor Day (1 week into September). The advantages to POFQ are - small resort, low key vibe, good bus service (1 bus stop), & elevators in all buildings. If you wanted the Skyliner- did you check into Pop Century? We stayed in 2019 (June before Skyliner opened) and I was impressed for it being a value resort. We were at POFQ last June. I think Art of Animation may be on the Skyliner route, but not positive.

You can search this thread as some folks on here said there's a refresh going in Martinique area of CBR, but I'm not so sure about that. The only disney announced refurb for CBR was the old Pirate rooms in Trinidad, those are completed I believe as some guests have stayed in these rooms already. The refresh that posters shared is basically paint and flooring from what I read but I've not seen any photos of these refreshed rooms yet.

Amen to that, when I visited Sweden, nobody worked all summer, it was insane. Most people I spoke to had 4 weeks of vacation and many did 3 of those weeks over the summer......I can't even imagine that. I thought I was killing it with my 21 days of pto lol

And where I live, some schools don't even have summer break, they go all year round and have two, 3 week summer breaks. I guess it's good for little kids so parents don't have to spend as much if they have to pay for day care but I don't love that schedule.

Sales this summer are really slow for Disney, so they're probably starting it lower this year to get ahead of it. If you plan to frequent Epcot and Studios, the Skyliner is a complete game changer and makes CBR much more attractive.

For 2023, the Halloween party is starting on August 11th. If you think you would want to go, then maybe it starting during your trip is a good thing. But on the other hand, that will mean shorter hours for MK and less chance to avoid the heat and visit parks in the cooler evening. Just something else to consider!

Many schools in the US, particularly in the South start in August (most in Georgia go back Aug 1, teachers end of July!) versus after Labor Day in September (more common up North). August is very, very hot and hurricane season. You may not experience any hurricane weather but 100% chance of high humidity and HOT. I grew up in Florida and will not go to Disney June-September as I find it unpleasant. We just got back (May) and the it was quite nice, low humidity and high of 84. I believe this week highs are already in the 90s.

I think it is better to visit WDW again in May. We thought maybe it’s nice to visit Food and Wine Festival instead of Flower and Garden, which we saw four times now. But the weather is also important. Now we wait for a deal with the Dining Plan which is coming back in 2024 😉

It’s cheaper because August is peak heat + the middle of hurricane season. If I had to cross an ocean to go to Disney, or had plans not easily cancelled and modified, I’d try to avoid hurricane season.

AoA is on the Skyliner route. Same stop as Pop except when getting on/off you cross the bridge in the other direction. (Fun Fact: AoA and Pop were originally planned as sister resorts of Pop Century. AoA was supposed to be Pop Century: The Legendary Years but 9/11 resulted in that half of the project being abandoned. Link.)
