POFQ - no discounts?

Grrr....

This trip is becoming more and more complicated.

I started with POP Century but decided I wanted something more romantic for our anniversary. I ended up booking POFQ as it looked lovely and I know my husband would appreciate a smaller resort as well as the boat access to Downtown Disney.

Now I have seen and heard the French Quarter does not always participate in discounts. I noticed it was not included in the recent room only discount. (I am assuming it did participate in the free dining one)

So now I am not sure if I should switch to another resort so ensure I have a chance at a promo if one becomes available. I looked at Riverside and standard rooms are already booked for my November dates.

This is very frustrating all around. I don't know why Disney is so slow in releasing discounts...

You're right. POFQ either has a small (5%) or nonexistent discount. I was told by a booking CM that because Disney has no problem filling the POFQ that they don't need to offer any. I am not sure about the free dining though. I think it would be included in that offer.

POFQ is a popular resort and it's usually included in discounts, but at a lower rate. People have posted that POFQ is often offered as low as 5% vs 25% for other mods. Keep in mind that whichever resort you choose has to be available under a discount in order to take advantage of that discount. Having a reservation already in place does not guarantee a discount can be applied, so booking a particular resort now will not ensure you a discount. Disney releases discounts to fill rooms, so if a particular resort is booking up, there would be no need to offer that particular resort at a discount (or offer it a lower discount).

They offer discounts if they feel they need to in order to fill rooms. If rooms are filled with no discount there is no need for them to offer one. This happens very often with POFQ because it is a popular resort and is the smallest of the moderates so if fills up fast. In recent years, IF POFQ has been included in a discount it has been 5% while other moderates are at 15-20%.

I know this may not help you, but it's something we have done the past 4 trips to save me the hand wringing about waiting for a discount. We wait until we have enough saved to book the vacation we want. Then IF they come out with a discount we either use the $$ saved to book a fireworks cruise, a tour or put it towards our next stay. It's been great not having all the worry as the trip comes closer. It's just excitement then.

Oh we have enough for the trip but the prices are a bit crazy is all. Especially when you know people are going and staying at the same places with free dining or a discount. Make things a little less magical when the room next to you is getting their meals free and you are paying for the dining plan!

I have been toying with Universal for this trip. The package I have been looking at is actually cheaper than Disney (unless Disney offers a discount of some sort) and includes dining, express pass and you can walk to the parks and city walk so no buses.

We are booked in September with a free dinning package at the French Quarter. I share your frustration with the discounts there. I refuse to stay anywhere that only offers me a 5% discount!

DITTO. :thumbsup2 I have rarely found discounts when looking at POFQ.

We tried to get Free Dining at POFQ for the first week of December and had to choose between CSR or CBR. We are trying CSR for the first time this year. I am sure we will make our way to POFQ to get some beignets and use the boats to get to DTD.

If you are a AAA member, you may be able to obtain a room at POFQ at 15% to 20% off the rack rate, depending on your vacation dates. I have a 15% discount for my upcoming October trip.

Although under the late summer discount, a larger, 25% discount was available for POR (vs. only 5% at POFQ), you had to book Garden View to get it; it wasn't available for standard rooms there. I don't know if that happens all the time, but I called the morning the discount was released and was told no discounts for POR standard....

We got a 20% discount on our June stay on Orbitz at POFQ. I would take a look at them. Also try AAA discounts.

We were booked at POFQ for the end of August when the room only discounts were released. We called in and got something around 10% where other mods were getting 25%. FD starts the day after we go home.

Using AAA, we have also been able to get a POFQ discount higher than the 5% public offer. As high as 20%, when the public offer for POR was 25%. So we would stay at POFQ, since 5% isn't a big difference. Especially when we would want a preferred room at POR, the extra cost for a preferred room almost negates the 5% difference in savings. (part of the reason we like POFQ is that it is so compact and everything is close together, without preferred room up-charges)

POFQ has participated in the free dining offers in the past. So that may be an option for you as well.

We stay at POR when the discount is too low at POFQ. Why pay more? When I shut the door, I'm in the exact same room as FQ! :thumbsup2

We stayed at POFQ the beginning of June with a AAA discount.
I only book room only packages since the dining plan isn't worth it for us.

I got POFQ as a bounceback. Same discount as the rest of the moderates.

We are booked at POFQ for our dec trip and we have free dining, although it was a pinned offer, not a public offer. I am excited to give this resort a try since I've never stayed here before (we usually stay in the value resorts since we are at the parks from RD 'til close pretty much every day) but since we are celebrating our anniversary I went with a more "romantic" resort this time around. =)

Hope you can get a good rate!

Assuming since it is an anniversary trip that it is just the two of you, hope you booked a King room...they are corner rooms and really nice. If not, ask at checkin!!
