My son has been 3 times so far (plus lunch in downtown disney) and the last time was this past August.
We bring breakfast just because it makes our life easier in the am with getting out to the park, showering, getting dressed, etc.... I even got a microwave last trip and my son had oatmeal a few ams. He doesn't eat waffles or muffins or mist yummy stuff! But a few yrs ago we did Obama for breakfast and he had the waffles, wait, they made them for him, he took a teeny tiny bite and said he didn't like them. They were food but he just doesn't like that stuff.
In August, the only thing I was disappointed in was at chef mickeys, they took forever to bring his ice cream (dairy free, plus he is allergic to peanut, tree nut and egg white unless it is cooked in a bread) and when I asked if they had any Oreos as is they said no.
But at the Poly (i know it's not where you are staying), I would meet with the chef and they would take the order. To my surprise they had chicken tenders that he could have. He loved them! The chef/manager also asked me if he wanted any dessert and I said he couldn't have anything in the cabinet other then the Oreos. She opened a brand new package and took a few out and said just ask. So after that I was disappointed at the chef from chef mickeys when they told me no since I would think they have the same desserts at their fast food place.
Also at the poly, I was asking for his ice cream one day and the chef said he could have a dike whip. She brought out the ingredients for me and my dh to read and said he could only have the pineapple. And since there are 3 spigots for vanilla, pineapple and twist we were good. She gave him a sample which was huge and he was hooked!
I have always said Disney was great and still believe they bend over backwards for those with allergies.
FYI, it does take a bit longer to cook some of the food like the pizza and a few times we were the first customers at lunch so they had to heat up the separate grill/oil.
