Just back from POFQ. We stayed two nights in building 6, third floor overlooking the river. We had two adjoining rooms. At check in there was a line of people waiting so it took a bit of time. We were directed as to where to park our cars and I must say that it seemed like quite a hike to get to our rooms from the parking lot, especially lugging all our bags. We hadnt realized it was going to be so far and those few bags we had started to feel pretty heavy.
The exterior of the hotel is lovely. Very pretty. The elevator was just down the hall from us and there were also two staircases, one at either end of the hall. There was a soda machine on our floor and snacks on another floor, I believe on the second floor. The lobby and pool are not far at all. Just a couple of minutes and youre there. You can get towels at the pool and more snacks in the food court as well as the gift shop. In the gift shop we found full size sodas, loafs of bread, jelly & pb, cereal, boxes of cookies, bags of chips lots of food to buy to keep in the room for quick meals and snacks. The food court was a bit busy at breakfast. There were a lot of options to pick from, fresh fruit available too. And having the fridge in the room was very handy. Just enough room for a few drinks and some snacks.
The room itself is decorated nicely. Very cheery, blue and yellow. Not much room on top of the dresser as the coffee maker and the t.v. take up most of the room. The second night we were there the remote on the t.v. died so we had to get up to change the channel. And our room also seemed to have an odd smell to it. We couldnt figure out where it was coming from or what it was. My mother seemed to think it smelt as though someone had had an accident on the rug. On our second day there the bathtub didnt seem to get cleaned out too well as there was still hair left there when we came back to the room. And the toilet too was not cleaned very well either. Also, we had left the AC on low in the morning but it had been switched on to the highest setting so the room was very, very cold when we came back at night.
There are the two pedestal sinks in the vanity area and a small shelf over them. Not a whole lot of room to store things in there but the shelf was adequate. Theres also a shelf behind the bathtub and that made a handy spot to place shampoo, bodywash etc. The curtain separating the vanity from the beds does not block the light at all. So if one of you is trying to get ready while the others are sleeping the light will shine through. I cant sleep if theres light so that bothered me a bit.
I found the bed to be a bit uncomfortable. It seemed to sag on one side. And the pillows were awful, very mushy. I prefer something a bit firmer. I ended up tossing the pillows aside and just resting my head directly on the mattress itself because I found the pillows so uncomfortable.
The one bus stop is outside the lobby and we never waited very long for the bus. The hotel overall was fairly quiet, not too many people staying there so it was never crowded. The kids loved the pool, the slide was a big hit. We saw a couple of horse drawn carriages pass by our room too.
Apart from a couple of problems we did find the hotel to be very charming overall.
