Ok, who else here writes poetry, or is a fan of it? I am! In fact, I just wrote this one a few minutes ago. Maybe it's not the best, but I felt inspired. Share your poems or your favorite poems! :surfweb:

"fairie"

walking in the winter-white woods
a fairie comes to me
and softly, she whispers
"come to me"

entranced, i follow her
mesmerized by the power
that she holds over
my soul

my soul
a strange, hollow place
empty and void
cold and alone

cold--the snow swirls around
as i follow the fairie deeper
deeper, deeper, into the recesses of the wood
deeper into the recesses of my mind

soon, i do not feel the cold
do not feel the stinging pain any longer
i feel nothing at all
nothing...

not even my feet
they skim the ground
as if i am flying
as if i am falling

free-falling
into your arms
into the arms of the trees
that now surround every inch of me

we arrive at a clearing in the woods
the fairie and i
and there, there i see...
well i see you

i cannot believe it to be true
i call your name
but you fade away
quicker than a bolt of lightning

but before you fade
you smile at me and wave hello
the smile that i still see in my dreams
and the smile that i never thought i'd see again

walking in the winter-white woods
a fairie comes to me
and softly, she whispers
"come to me"

I love poetry, that's why I'm in creative writing. We're doing poetry in english soon too. :)
I won a contest at the beginning of the year and just sent in another one a few weeks ago.
I won $10 at a poetry reading out of 40 people a few weeks ago too. (Another girl in my class won $50.)
I'm particularly fond of the one by Maya Angelou for Clinton's inauguration. (It's pretty long, but you can look it up.)
I would post some but we turn a lot in for contests.

One of my favourites that I've written, but not one of my best:

Golden Carousel

Let's go riding on a golden carousel.
We'll watch as the world spins by
while we ride the painted ponies
whith their cheerful grins
and ever-brilliant manes.
They'll be painted in reds
and blues and even violets.
We'll watch as the world spins by
and we won't care about what's
going wrong.
Because we'll be riding on a golden carousel
where there isn't a frown in sight.

i love poetry but i cant write it.
i like "Porphyria's Lover" by Robert Browning. even though its pretty dark. i liked "To His Coy Mistress" by Andrew Marvell when i first read it but then we studied it in English. it was not as sweet as i first thought.

Awww, you guys write so good! :goodvibes

I write poetry sometimes, but the ideas for them are rare. I usually write them when I'm sad or upset about something, because that's the way I vent. But I do get inspiration from other things too sometimes, like movies and stuff.

I haven't written anything recently, but this was the last one I did:

The Rose

In the place where darkness grows,
Stands a single, lonely rose.
Its petals lay withered, stem askew
And the soil beneath is covered in dew.

The surrounding trees rise high above,
Absorbing all nutrients, light and love.
To them, the flower is nothing but a pest;
Like a buzzing bee or annoying guest.

Weak, defenseless and full of remorse,
The rose stands still, facing its course;
And as it's life slowly begins to slip,
The trees' branches sway like a dangerous whip.

But just as its life seems at an end,
A loud groan is heard around the bend.
Within an instant, logs hit the ground,
Warmth fills the air and hope is found.

As the days pass, the rose begins to grow
Into a bush as its roots spread below.
Loneliness soon becomes a thing of the past,
As new flowers bloom into a brilliant contrast.

I mostly do poems that rhyme. But I do have one that's kind of like a bunch of different haiku's that have been smashed together into one, big poem. I'm not quite sure I like it that much tho. I was just experimenting when I wrote it.

I'm a fan of Claude McKay.

Flower of Love

The perfume of your body dulls my sense.
I want nor wine nor weed; your breath alone
Suffices. In this moment rare and tense
I worship at your breast. The flower is blown,
The saffron petals tempt my amorous mouth,
The yellow heart is radiant now with dew
Soft-scented, redolent of my loved South;
O flower of love! I give myself to you.
Uncovered on your couch of figured green,
Here let us linger indivisible.
The portals of your sanctuary unseen
Receive my offering, yielding unto me.
Oh, with our love the night is warm and deep!
The air is sweet, my flower, and sweet the flute
Whose music lulls our burning brain to sleep,
While we lie loving, passionate and mute.
