Pods

If you've used PODS for moving (or moving and storage), or know someone who has, I would be interested in reading about your experience. I would also be interested in knowing about cost, if you don't mind sharing.

A friend recently used a pod to move from Illinois to Florida. She said the price was comparable to renting a Uhaul, but loved that they could have the extra time to load their stuff and then drive their own cars without towing them. She was thrilled with the whole experience. UNTIL... They got to Florida and the Pod took a week longer to arrive than expected. Not only did they go a week without furniture, they also had already started their new jobs by the time the pod arrived so had to deal with moving stuff after work and on different schedules rather than during their time off before work started. Based on her experience, I personally won't use a Pod for a "cross country" move. I've heard good things from people using them to move from place to place in town, though.

I used a POD to finalize the move from our temporary rental to our new home in Oct. We had the POD delivered and I was able to take my time in filling it one box at a time for the last week we were in the rental. Then, when I was ready, I called for the pick up and it was delivered to my new home. On that end, I could take my time emptying the POD. All in all, it was an excellent experience and helped make the last packing less stressful.
I believe the total was about 300 which was a little high for what I actually used the POD for. The cost includeds the concept of a month of storage which I did not use being as I took a week to fill and empty the POD. However, I would do it again for sure! We also used rental trucks for other items we had stored and having to pick up the truck, hurry up and fill it, hurry up and empty it... not to mention having to drive the truck back to the rental place - not fun. The POD takes the " hurry up" out of the mix. Good luck!
