I'm a fan of numerous Disney podcasts, but over the years, I've dwindled that list primarily down to the DIS Unplugged and WDW Radio (Lou Mongello) podcasts. Both of these podcasts hit their own niche, IMHO.

The roundtable style of eclectic personalities on the DIS podcasts gives me a well-balanced, overall impression of events/rumors/news/whathaveyou. I find I shift toward the younger folks on the panel like Shaun and Craig because I'm a bit sarcastic and young as well. The other members of the crew and their mix of history and experience with all things Disney help to round out the viewpoints resulting in a podcast that allows me to receive different opinions on the latest topics. IOW, it's just a great place to listen to varying opinions and very entertaining.

Lou's show, WDW Radio, on the other hand, is in some ways a bit more primed on a single topic at a time. What I appreciate about his podcasts are related more to what he's known for: general Disneyana history and trivia. His DSI: Disney Scene Investigations are awesome looks in to the past and in-depth discussions on particular aspects of WDW. For example: his somewhat recent podcast on Space Mountain with past and present facts/trivia. In short, these podcasts grab my attention due to the way he's able to link historical information to the current news or topic of discussion and seems like a very cool guy (as well as his guests).

On their own, both of these podcasts are fine examples of just why it's OK to be a fan of multiple podcasts. Sometimes I get the feeling, in general life, that if you like one (insert item here) then you can't like the other. I don't expect everyone follows that sentiment here, but it's just something that I seem to notice about people's attitudes in general.

So, what I wonder...
Is there at all a working relationship between these podcasts? Have Pete & Company and Lou ever worked together? Is it out of the realm of possibility to ever see a Co-Produced podcast or possibly ever have The DIS invite Lou as a guest (or vice versa; posting in this fashion given the board I'm posting on ;))?

I'm not asking for a forevermore podcast joint effort. I am just curious if there's any networking that has occurred in the past or a potential to ever see something like this done as an occasional thing (maybe once a year or so)?

Maybe I'm the only person... but I think that would be pretty darn cool.

Some podcasts/personalities cross
For example, Lou was on the WDW Today podcast a couple of months ago. AJ Wolfe of the Disney Food Blog shows up there on occasion as well

As for Lou and the DIS, there is this:

I couldn't agree with you more -in fact, if there are Disney fans not listening to Lou's DSI's ...they are really missing something! Try episode 117(I think) on Disney Studios. But I still prefer the DIS week-to-week -I like the blend of personalities, humor, and honesty. But I don't think you'll see a collaborative effort any time soon.

The question of cross-podcast coordination has been addressed by Pete & Co. Basically, they are very aware of who the other major Disney podcasters are, but at least the DIS makes it a point not to cross pollinate.

I listen to Lou, and I've met him several times. We were around when he had his 5th anniversary meetup, and his kids invited my kids to color and play games.

Years ago there was MouseFest, which was gathering between multiple web sites and podcasts - I don't think DIS Unplugged was ever involved though. They ended in 2009 though. Some of those groups still work together on occasion.

DIS Unplugged has always been very independent though, but it also fits the much more independent style.

Actually, DIS Unplugged was involved in the very last Mousefest - 2008. That was the year they had the first TSMM Party, as well as having Marty Sklar speak at the Swan/Dolphin. It was an incredible Mousefest and I was so sad to see them discontinued . . . even though I understand the reasons. Fortunately, the DIS Unplugged plans their every other year land party during the same time period that WDW Today Reunion has their events. :thumbsup2

Ah, that's right...but I think that was in 2008. 2009 was when they canceled MouseFest, so it didn't happen that year.

Right, the 2008 Mousefest was the last one. Mousefest was put on "hiatus" in February of 2009 . . . never to return. :worried: Maybe the Marty Sklar event was in 2009, with the 2nd TSMM Party. Is that what it was? :confused3

I watch/Listen to Disunplugged WDW Radio and sometimes WDW Today and Be Our Guest. My two favorites being DisUnplugged and WDW Radio. They both have their own energy and I don't feel like if I watch one I am not being loyal to the other. I think that the two are different enough and bring different things to the listener. Both I think are invaluable and I appreciate the time and effort that they all put into their podcasts.

Shoutout to the Disney Food Blog, too. But they hardly produce podcasts lately. I've also tried Disney Prep School to Go

They tend to do podcast when there is something new to report about like food and wine, flower and garden etc.
They do a lot of others as well and seemed to pump out one per month for a while. Dry spell lately

I wonder if that first Dis event during Mousefest may have made Disney think how much a good idea it was. I heard from someone from another group one time that apparently Mousefest ended because Disney wanted the organisers to give them times and payment to close down the attractions just for that group, as some meets got very popular.

I think that was a a rumor, but according to the MouseFest board, Disney had nothing to do with it - they hadn't even had contact with Disney when they decided to suspend. It had more to do with MouseFest having grown larger than they felt comfortable handling, and the chairman had stepped down.

Could be. From what I heard, which was verified by Mike Scopa [part of the Mousefest Committee], was that Dave Marx [Passporter] was stepping down as Chairman. It was an unpaid position and was beginning to take up alot of his personal and professional time. He had been doing it for many years and no-one else was interested in taking that responsibility on as Disney was becoming more and more difficult to work with in regard to this event. I certainly don't fault Mr. Marx - I can only imagine the stress that could create. I do miss all of the numerous "sanctioned" events, but luckily WDW Today still does something around that same time period and the DIS kicks in a land party every other year.

Edit to add: WDW Today and Allears were already doing private/fee parties so I don't think the DIS was the reason.

I think there were several factors too why Mousefest didn't happen the biggest is definitely the one stayed above. But the person I heard from about Disney wanting to charge for the meets he had heard it from them. I think they just don't want to mention it on there various podcast and such so poel don't get mad at Disney for wanting to charge extra for something that is free, plus there is the whole how does the group pay for it do they collect money in advance and only those who paid to ride the Safari with All Ears get to ride it then, that was just an example.

Personally I don't blame them for not wanting to organise it to the scale it once was, it was just getting to big.
