Podcast Cruise 3.0 - 06/24/2012

We met this really nice couple from PA when we were in WDW this past August. Their kids and our kids got along really well. I was telling them about the cruise and they inquired into staterooms for this cruise. Maybe they didn't look at all categories, but they said the cheapest stateroom they could find was $15,000 for the same cruise we are all on?? :scared1:

If they are a family of 5 then the only thing left would be the Concierge with Verandah for $14,943.08.

If there a family of 4 they can do it for $6,598.28.

Good Evening, Everyone.

Just a quick question for those of you who've cruised on Disney before:

We're flying into Orlando from Buffalo, NY on Saturday, June 23. Do you have a preference as to whether you'd rather stay near the Orlando airport, rent a car, then drive to Port Canaveral on Sunday morning;
OR
Would you rather drive to Port Canaveral on Saturday, get a hotel, then get a shuttle to the terminal in the morning?

We've never cruised before, so I don't know if there are any advantages to one or the other.

If you have any recommendations as to hotels, rental cars, etc. I'd love to hear them.

I priced the Disney ground transportation and it's out of our league. We will be a group of 8, so I'm thinking of renting a 12 passenger van. Can you rent a car for 1 day? Or would I have to park it at the terminal and drive it back to Orlando after the cruise?

Any thoughts on any of this?

Thanks!

Oops! I see you are already on that thread! The last reply I had was quite helpful!
Gretchen,

Check out this thread that I started with some similar questions! I'm finding it helpful as we can't there there until the night before due to DD11 and DD6s dance recital as welll!

Thanks, Tigger813!
That's why I posted this question - I never would have thought of renting a car if I hadn't read your post and the replies.

We've had some issues arise over the last 2 weeks that have made me love the Dis even more!

Looking forward to meeting you!

Thank you, and I'm looking forward to meeting you & yours as well.
Just wish we had a little more guidance on these cruise questions from DU.

I will definitely add this if they do a FB show or Disboards show soon.

My DH (doconeill) is strongly considering staying at the airport Hyatt and then renting a van with the other family the next morning as the three girls will be exhausted from doing the recital earlier in the day! It would be nice to get off the plane and then just take the shuttle and then go upstairs to the hotel and get some sleep!

I checked out prices and it was $152.10 with a AAA discount to stay there that night.

Thanks, Tracey.
I've been leaning towards this hotel too.
For one thing, I like the idea of just taking an elevator to the hotel upon arrival at the airport instead of all the other rigamarole! How nice would it be to just fall into bed that night and get up nice and refreshed and ready to head out to the port in the morning?
Will continue to research ground transfers and keep you advised.

Just rec'd this quote from Orlando Disney Limo:

hi your fare quote is $150 each way
thank you

I asked for an 11 Passenger Shuttle Van for our group of 6 adults and 2 children. Hopefully this will leave plenty of room for the luggage.

This is quite a bit less expensive than Disney Cruise Line Ground Transfers for us.

Thanks for sharing the info, Gretchen!

I was looking at the Passporter book and it made a suggestion about using priceline or one of the discount places to get a good rate on the room at the Hyatt at the airport! They would be great to get a really awesome rate since we will probably only be there for about 8 hours!

Happy Hunting everyone! Keep sharing your ideas!

Just love my PassPorter!
We'll only be in the hotel a short time, too.
Was looking into Y.E.S. tickets last night. I'm not quite sure how they work, but they do provide a substantial savings over the usual outlets (including mousesavers). Sent an email to see if the grandchildren would be eligible for any classes in June/July. Will let you all know what I find out.
Here's a link to the site: http://www.disneyyouth.com/individual-enrollment/WDW/pricing/2012/non-florida/

For the Hyatt we have used a Costco discount in the past. You might check those sorts of options too. I have not used Priceline as I always wanted to know exactly what I am getting, and I use my loyalty numbers too.

We spent one night at the airport Hyatt in August. I can honestly say that I was AMAZED by the wonderful service at this hotel. We paid $10 to have a bellhop meet us at baggage claim and help us with our bags. The young man was so polite and helpful. Then upon check-out, another delightful young bellhop took our bags to the rental car counter, waited with us until we got our papers, and then walked over to the garage and actually put our bags in the back of the car!

Just found a sight called www.biddingfortravel.com which will give you recent successful bids on hotels, airfare, etc. via priceline & hotwire
In a post about the Orlando Hyatt a person bid $45 for a Monday night in Sept and it was accepted....
