Pocket Knife Allowed?

So, Disney does check for these things but at that size they may not notice it. If they notice it I would expect them to confiscate it and give it back at the end of the cruise. I would say if you choose to bring it be prepared for them to take it.

I would say be prepared to lose it if you try. I like carrying a little multi tool as well, but don't want to lose it so I just leave it in the car or at home.

I have carried a pocket knife larger than that on board before. It was in my carry-on and not on me so it probably just didn't get noticed. Something that small I would expect they either won't notice or might ignore. But as mentioned, if you do take it you should be prepared for them to confiscate if they do notice it.

So Disney's website says no knives allowed on the ships, but does anyone know if they would allow this:

I find that I use this all the time, and would like to have it with me on board. The parks state no weapons allowed also, but since this blade is so short and small, after looking at it Security lets me go through with it every time.

Why would you need a pocket knife in a theme park? :rolleyes1

Does it have a knife? Yes. Therefore it is not allowed. I don't know why anyone would think a Swiss Army knife is an exception. If you choose to try and bring it on board they may catch it and confiscate it.

Just ask Disney when your having a steak and they will give u a nice big steak knife just use that one

My husband carries 2 pocket knives. His swiss army knife was fine though security, but his 2nd pocket knife has a locking blade and he had to take that one back to the car.

My husband has been allowed to carry-on a Leatherman tool, which I'm pretty sure has a knife. But it is possibly dependent on the security personnel at the time you board. I believe if it's not allowed, and you don't have a car in the garage to leave it in, they'll hold it for you to pick-up at debarkation; same if it's confiscated out of checked luggage, you can claim it at debarkation.

Enjoy your cruise!

I brought a Swiss Army Explorer on Fantasy in 2014. I had it with me when we went ashore in Jamaica. Jamaica security/customs held me and a man with the exact same knife until the DCL security officer came to vouch for us:sad2: I asked him if the knife was allowed; he said yes. It was a hassle though, so I wouldn't take it to the ports. However, I bring my classic into the parks all the time. I think it would be fine, but I don't know if I will bring it ashore in Jamaica since they were so anal.

My father carries at least two pocket knives at all times because he's of that age that you *always* carried a pocket knife growing up. He had four different ones with him on our last cruise, with at least one in his carry on and the others in his checked luggage. My wife always has at least two Swiss Army knives. The only place they've ever caught grief about it was at Universal Studios Orlando. I've had a 4" Opinel in my checked luggage and they didn't even give it a second glance as far as I know, since it made it on board.

- the 'weapons' used in 9/11 were primarily 'box cutters' .... they have a blade length of approx 1 inch .... folks were threatened with having their throats slit .....

does a report of screeners allowing blades thru make YOU feel better?

- I was 'caught' with a key chain swiss army knife with a blade approx 1 inch and the security guy said ... "just don't flash it .... I have the same one" and let me go. I forgot it was in the pocket of my carry on

If it was ME who caught this on a boarding screen ... there would be a 'back room' inspection just to ensure it never happened again. (did I mention I used to search potential drug runner boats ......)

What a coincidence, I had a case today involving a TSA Agent who was terminated for allowing a "small" swiss army knife through security. Outcome was he is getting his job back (no back pay), re-training, not allowed to work carry on screen or pat down for 6 months. Whenever bringing something prohibited or expecting a CM to make exceptions to the rules you are placing their livelihood at risk. Those things that don't seem big deals to us can be to someone else and all they have to do is see it, report the employee and the standards may require action. If its prohibited why try ?

I think the first part of your first sentence seems to answer the question.

Do people board with such things? Yes. Should they? In my opinion, no. But, I suppose it's up to your comfort level on "getting away" with things.

That almost sounds like a rather liberal encouragement on tax deductions, and I can say that you are exactly right. I actually went through a random audit a couple years ago and it was quite educational. Things I thought were concerns were not, and the stuff they honed in on were little insignificant things.

A word of advice, ok some sentences:) People on here get up in arms about "knives". I understand why you asked though. However, the classic is usually pretty cheap to replace. If you feel comfortable, then do it. If it makes you feel better, I will probably be bringing my classic in my purse and my Explorer in my checked luggage. It would be much harder for me to harm someone with either of these than a steak knife from the restaurants. Plus, my Explorer has a wine bottle opener, a file, and bigger scissors. The classic does not usually meet the legal definition of "knife" in most municipalities or states. It's a really subjective definition. Box cutters don't qualify as knives either legally. Heck, I've seen people do scary things with pens and pencils, but last time I checked, I could bring those on. Don't get too frustrated, and just trust your gut. A lot of people haven't been exposed to the extreme usefullness of utility knives and so they don't understand. I keep my Explorer in my purse, except for parks and museums, because it has come in handy so many times. I just used the toothpick tonight after dinner;) Have a great cruise.
