DW and I are planning a Jan 18-25 trip to PO-R. Should we leave our room up to chance or should we request the bayou or the bend. We do have a 5 month old DS, so to him it doesn't matter. Also I noticed on the PO-R map there is a couple of bus stops. Does anyone know the order that the busses pick up? Is it always the same?

Thanks in advance!

We've stayed in both sections. AB is more laid back and rustic. Much more 'rural' in feel. MB is more formal, right down to the furniture in the rooms. With a little one I would suggest bldgs. 14,15,18 in AB. Close to main bus depot, food court and shops. In MB I would say Magnolia Terrace is a good choice. This bldg. does have a bus stop in the back. When we stayed here, we just walked over to the food court, got coffee and caught the bus at the main stop. I would just ask for a room close to the pool or the food court because you have a small child and walking a great distance could be a problem. You'll love this resort. It's one of my favorites. I would be staying there again, but the family wants to try a different place. I say, why mess with success??!!

Just returned! We couldn't decide so we just left it up to fate-lol. We arrived at 9am and we immediately received a room in Parterre Place, it was very nice!! Both area were really very pretty, the AB has more of a back woods feel to it.

As far as the buses we found that in the mornings they went to the back stops first and then to the Main(south depot) last. But in the afternoon and eveing they went to the south depot first and then around to the back stops.

I think either section you'll love! The reason we left it up to them was because I didn't want to be disappointed if we didn't get our request, this way I really had no prefernce going in to it. Plus I don't think we would've been in our room at 9:15am if we had requested a section in advance and that was really great getting in early.

Honestly, after touring the whole resort I would've been happy anywhere, it was beautiful!

Have a great & safe trip!!

POR has four bus stops. During my stays there, the buses would always stop at the South Depot (the one beside the main building) first, then the West, North, and East Depots (in that order). Based on hallie's post, it sounds like they may be varying that now to sometime go to the South Depot last. I suspect that they always hit the other three depots in "clockwise" order (West, North, East), with the only question being whether the South is the first or last stop. (By the way, here is an online copy of the map for reference: Port Orleans Map )

I have stayed at POR many times, and my track record at getting my requests (AB vs. Mansions, "close to the main building", etc), has been fair at best. The good news is that while I prefer Alligator Bayou, as hallie stated, the entire resort is nice, so I have never really been disappointed with where I ended up. Worst case, you may end up with a hike to the food court and general store (Keep that stroller handy!), but there should always be a bus stop reasonably close.

Have a great trip!:earsboy:

Just an FYI that even though you make a request for a section it is just that a request and may not be granted. There is no logic to how room requests are or are not granted. So even though you may request your room assignment is still up to "chance".

We have been to WDW many times and some trips we did not make any requests other then a medical request for a non-smoking room due to my husbands health issues and we were upgrade for free without even asking.

Other trips we made requests for specific areas/building/trails and did not get them. We still had great tirps.

I usually reconmend to people who book moderates that are spreadout that you need to believe you are going to be happy at that resort no matter which area you get because if you put all your hopes into getting a certain building/section and your request is not granted you are going to be in for a let down.

No matter what area you end up in I wish you a great trip.

Just a word of warning about AB section. If you are a non smoker be sure you note it when you reserve. I had requested non smoking, AB 14, 15. It showed up as such on my original confirmation sheet. When I paid in full, my request for AB 14, 15 was there. The non smoking request wasn't. Didn't think anything of it. When we got there, we were given AB 18, which I knew was also close. What I didn't know was that it is a smoking bldg...........till I opened the door. I wasn't even in the room and was driven back by the smell! I looked at the door and there was no sign to indicate a no smoking building. My wife, being a former smoker was behind me and smelled it (she never even made it to the room) and said if they can't move us we are going to Howard Johnson. I never smoked, but am not a prude about it. I go to bars, get stunk up by cigarette smoke and all that. I honestly had all I could do to use the phone in the room and request a different room. The girl at the desk was pleasant and told me "But building 18 is a smoking building!" I said "How was I supposed to know that?" Like I should know such things..... Fortunately we got there before the Thanksgiving Crush, and she was able to move us to Bldg 27, (right in front of 18), and threw in a fridge for our trouble! The room truly wreaked!! (No offense intended to smokers) But in typical Disney style, the problem was resolved immediately.

Could someone post the number to call a few days before our trip to request a certain building?? Thanks!

TK

Thanks for the info on AB room. We are going in March. Was looking to request bldg 18 but if it is all smoking I won't be able to tolerate that. CTPacky: Did you guys have a waterview room?

We did not have a waterview room. I have yet to actually sit by the window and enjoy a view. We used to get one at CBR, but couldn't justify the extra cost. At POR, most of the rooms overlook gardens, ponds, etc.

We are not "rustic" kind of people. We stayed at MB our first trip and loved it.

We left it up to fate on our 2nd trip and got AB. We LOVED it!!!!!

I would request AB, if we stay again!

We have stayed in both, and liked the Bayou better! We like the surroundings, and we were in building 14, which is close to everything, but still had a feeling of remoteness.

Whichever you decide, have a great time, and you will love PO-R... and make sure to visit PO-FQ by boat... it is nice ride, and the resort is quite lovely as well!
