Pneumonia

Oh the joys of winter. Just to let you know many children get viral pneumonia which means the antibiotics will do diddly squat. However most kids will be put on antibiotics just in case it is bacterial. It may take a few weeks for the noisy lung and cough to go away,so be prepared for that. Once she is acting her normal self she should be good but the cough will continue, she won't be contagious though. Right now there is a bad adnovirus in our area causing coughs, runny noses and fevers that last a week. And guess who's got a cough and fever now?! My youngest. We'll see how the rest of the kids fare since they're always messing with him!

My DS6 was just diagnosed last night (after 2 hours in urgent care, then 2 hours waiting for our prescriptions to be filled) and the doc said he could technically go back once the fever was gone, but to keep him out until he was feeling better and could move around without having a coughing attack. She also said it would take at least a month for him to feel 100% and for the cough to be gone. She prescribed the antibiotics, an inhaler, and cough meds with codine. He has been out of school for a week already and I emailed his teacher this morning to let her know I was probably keeping him out all week, and she said it would be fine. I am worried he will run around at recess. He is really bummed because he is going to miss the rest of his basketball season, skiing, and recess. We are also running out of things to do. We have watched every movie in the world it seems, played millions of games, and my son is reading 4 chapter books a day. He is not an art lover (does not like to do projects, but will occasionally draw on his own) and we would love ideas of how others are filling their days. We live in CA so this whole homebound thing is totally foreign to us. TIA
