We're hoping to spend some time at Downtown Disney during our next trip. Are there any restaurants that you've had good experiences with when dealing with food allergies - we're PN and TN specifically. I know some had chosen McDonalds, but I think it will be closed by the time we're there later this spring.

See the dis ABILITIES FAQ at the top of the list of threads on this board. There's an entire, explicit post on special dietary needs including contact information.

I have PN and TN allergies and had great experience at Rainforest Cafe, they were great with the allergies. We will be trying TRex next trip as they are owned by the same company so assume they will be ok too, we are also going to try Wolfgang Pucks, but don't have any experience with them.

Thanks for sharing your experience, aussietravellers. I have been wanting to try Rainforest Cafe, but I've been afraid to do so since they aren't owned by Disney (dd has PN/TN allergies). It's also great to know that TRex is owned by the same company. I'll check those out for our trip this summer! :goodvibes

T-Rex was awesome and I felt they took the same carry as the best of the WDW restaurants. The chef came to the table and also helped us find a safe dessert for him. It was a wonderful meal and we will go back.:thumbsup2

Thanks for all the replies. I appreciate it. It's great to know that TRex and Rainforest Cafe handle allergies well, as both would be fun options for our kids. Has anyone tried Earl of Sandwich?

Don't know about PN or TN allergies but Earl of Sandwich isn't really set up to handle allergies. I had a mgr tell me this. Cross contact would be my big concern there.
In my experiences T -Rex seemed to handle allergies better than Rainforest. They seemed able to help more with choices.
but then again it could have been the server we had or Mgr that day.
Everytime we go it's always something different!

Wolfgang pucks express has a hard time in dealing with allergies, maybe not PN or TN ,but others. they have a set menu and I have only1 time (in all my trips) been able to get a definate answer on ingredients.

We ate at Wolfgang Puck (sit down) not Express. The chef came to the table just like the WDW restaurants and was good with us. We only had TN at the time. You may want to check with them. I have a vague recollection that they cook with peanut oil instead of vegetable?

Peanut Oil! No Wolfgang Pucks for us! What a shame, cafe and express were on our list. I may email them to confirm this as I won't be making an ADR (for Cafe or Dining Room) if they use Peanut Oil.

Thanks for the info.

Every time we have eaten at Rainforest Cafe we have been assigned a Manager who looks after us, takes our orders, on the odd occasion the original server may bring out the food, but a Manager has taken our order every time, this include Rainforest at DL and others. So maybe this is the policy of Landrys who own both Rainforest and TRex.

I just received a reply from Wolfgang Pucks after sending them an email the other day asking if they use peanut oil at their restaurants Wolfgang Express and the Cafe. It read...

"Just to confirm, neither location uses Peanut Oil in the cooking process.

Please be sure to visit our Express over in Marketplace, we have just introduced a new and exciting menu. Our General Manager at that restaurant is Shaneena Tremblay. The Wolfgang Puck Gran Café is located over in the Westside. The Area Manager is Kathie Raynor.

Please ensure that you share your allergy concerns with the staff during your visit. If I can answer any questions about the menu please let me know."

The email did provide the email addresses of the managers of both restaurants but I didn't think I should post them on the board, but can PM them if anybody wants them.

So they don't use peanut oil in the cooking process, does that mean they don't use it at all. :confused3

What about Planet Hollywood and House of Blues? Any allergy experience at those places, anyone? We are dealing with peanut/tree nut allergies.

We also had a great experience with T Rex. My children have PN, TN and sesame allergies. The chef came out and talked to us about would be safe for them to eat. He over saw the making of their meals. When it was time for dessert he came out again to discuss safe options for them. The chef was wonderful and seemed very knowledgable about dealing with food allergies.
