Hi everyone, I called the number for cakes at the Contemporary, where we will be staying, to order a cake for my daughter's 16th birthday. When I asked about PN/TN free cakes, she gave me the number for Babycakes.

We tried Babycakes on our last trip and my daughter didn't like their products at all. In fact, she said "yuck" and spit it out! We don't need gluten free, we just need no cross-contamination from peanuts and tree nuts. Any ideas?

From my understanding from a couple of years ago, they cannot guarantee no PN/TN cross contamination in their bakeries. At least that is what we were told 5 years ago. Hopefully someone else with more recent experience will chime in.

We've not had good luck getting just a peanut free cake there in the past. To disney gluten free and peanut free go together. They always steer us to gluten free. Yuck.

This is what is happening to us too. PN/TN allergic people don't have to eat gluten free if they don't have that issue as well. It's like WDW just lumps all food allergies together and offers us one (yucky) cake option.

My dd would rather not have a cake at all if gluten free is all they can give us. I really don't understand. If they can prepare safe meals at the restaurants, why can't they prepare a PN/TN free regular cake? :confused3

I believe the cakes you get for celebrations are created in a bakery that bakes a lot of the resort deserts and sent to restaurants as needed. Pretty much only deserts that are a specialty of the restaurant are prepared actually in the restaurant, and I think there are exceptions to that too. So when you have a bakery that is cranking out hundreds or thousands if different desserts a day you can't guarantee no cross contamination.

I've heard this explanation before, but I still think it would be possible for them to accommodate people with food allergies without just offering one gluten free option for everyone.

For example, they could use dedicated equipment, like they do for the gluten-free Mickey waffles. It may take some thought, effort, and additional cost, but it seems like they could at least try. I know I would be willing to pay extra for a safe, delicious, regular cake for my daughter's 16th birthday.

It makes me sad when I see the beautiful cakes on the cake thread and know that my daughter can't have one. She's been left out so many times at birthday parties, church functions, weddings, etc., it seems like for as much as we pay at WDW that they could do better for us than this.

But I still love WDW despite this one area of dissatisfaction. They do a good job with food allergies overall; I just wish they would come up with a better plan in this regard.

Some bakeries at grocery stores have a peanut free dedicated line. When we're talking about something as simple as just keeping nuts out of the product, I just don't see why they can't do this. The gluten free is nut free too, so it is possible. It's kind of a big deal making everyone each gluten free especially when so many have celebrations there. What if a peanut allergic bride wanted her wedding there?

My DD14 is allergic to peanuts and tree nuts. We've eaten lunch at LTT twice and both times she was able to have the Martha Washington cake for dessert (I think they make it there). Maybe you could have lunch there and celebrate with a slice of cake? I know it's not the same as having an entire birthday cake delivered to your table, but DD said the cake was really good and it was so great for her to be able to have cake for dessert for a change.

I read on another site that the cupcakes at BOG are safe. Maybe you could have lunch or dinner there and celebrate with cupcakes?

Yay! Thank you so much for the tips, laughing place! I will definitely check those out!
