PMS...what helps you deal every month?

I'm glad I'm not alone with this PMS nightmare. I have it bad for two weeks out of the month. I am depressed, irritable, brain fog, bloated, upset stomach, etc. I cannot even stand myself. My poor kids. I'm unable to take BCP, as I have tried every hormonal BCP out there and they all make me so sick to my stomach. So I'm thinking of asking for zoloft or something for the sake of my family :) I'm reading some posts that make me think this could actually get worse as I get older? I cannot imagine...I was hoping it would get better as I got older.

my son and I go camping...

there are three females in my household :scared1:

I have had the worst PMS ever since I turned 40 or so. I am exactly like the others described the week before my period...I take no prisoners. I can't help it. One minute I will be sitting in the car crying to some song on the radio and 30 minutes later I am barely able to control my irrational anger. The kids understand, hey I am having a hard time today...DH..not so much. I feel so bad for him because every question he asks is a stupid one, every decsion he makes is the wrong one..blah blah.

I am going to try the B6, might even look for the lotion. I have my check up in Dec so thought about talking to the dr then to try and get a solution. I will try some of the things on this thread. I also can not take BCP.

My dh will appreciate the disboards if it works! I have never had these types of issues until I had to have surgery for an ectopic pregnancy, lost an ovary and a tube. About a year after that...watch out. I didn't even notice it happened, well, I did notice I was a big baby but the sheer meanness..even I am mad at myself for being so mean. I need a WEEKlong TIMEOUT every month.

Exercise. Seriously...even if you just take a daily walk. The days I don't exercise....WATCH OUT!

That's a double edged sword for me. Exercise alleviates some of the symptoms, like moodiness and retaining fluid. But it makes the cramps and flow so much worse. Walking is out of the question at that point.

My mom and I get it at the same time..my dad doesn't understand :lmao:
He is like "PMS is NO EXCUSE for being this moody!"
and I say .. "DAD, I am a teenager who is PMSing!"

But I eat ice cream.

i'm with you, girls...i have two weeks a month that i am totally good for nothing. i have cramps, bloating, fatigue like you wouldn't believe, horrible lower back aches, and headaches (occasional migraines), not to mention the completely different personality. mine have always been bad, although there was some improvement after i had my first child. but then they got dramatically worse after my second and then something must've happened about 2 years ago and now they are unbearable. i'm tracking what's going on - or trying to anyway, every month so that i can talk to my gyn about it at my next appointment. bcp are not an option for me either, i've tried the exercise (totally second what one of the PP said about it increasing your flow), i don't have any caffeine (okay, maybe a cup of regular diet coke once a month), and the only thing that i've found that helps even remotely is Motrin and a long nap. at least when i'm asleep, i can't focus on the pain as much. thanks for all the suggestions, i'm definitely going to try some of these!
