Plus size shopping

I think it really depends on what you're looking for ...

I don't buy things to wear on holiday I buy to take home.

And yes, I know my size is my issue and I could do something about it, but there can be a tendency to find every other plus sized woman in the UK is wearing the same clothes ... I think there is a big difference between being a size 20 (which I agree you can buy all over the high st) and needing a 24/26 which leaves you with Evans and a couple of 'older ladies' stores such as Ann Harvey and Elvi

For me, its the getting something different ... and picking up brands like DKNY which are not available in my size in the UK (I'm really hoping one of the dept stores will have the plus size Juicy Couture which is on their websites on my trip).

Totally agree, Get bored of Evans or New Look which are the only shops i shop in. And 99.9% of the time if i'm out at the pub on a Friday night someone is wearing the same top as me lol.

This is a great thread Tash!
I am a size 18 and i NEVER buy any clothes in Florida, its always DH or the kids. Not that i am complaining as i stock up on makeup and hand bags ;)

I had no idea that you could buy plus size designer wear!!!! I want a Juicy Couture tracksuit to go with my handbag! I don't care if i look like a Chav, i must have one!!!

Just wanted to mention that there is a store called Avenue which has nice Plussize clothes.
Its located at the stores opposite the Target near Florida Mall.If you stand at the Target exit its to the right.I think there is a Bed store close to it.

Forgot to add that my sister got Apple Bottom Jeans in a size 20 (UK size) from one of the department stores in the Florida Mall. Our niece was v. impressed.

Great Thread!!
Dress Barn is OK, but you have to get lucky, I have got some lovely dresses in there before, and nice tops from the sale rail.
Old Navys size XXL is about an 18-20 and I think Gap is the same.
I went to the Juicy shop in Prime outlets last time, but I thought the tracksuits all looked tiny, I didnt even bother looking never imagining my bum would get into them but I am gonna be taking a trip back there when I got in 10 days time! :)

Agree about Dress Barn, you never know what you can find. I've been lucky and got a fair few dresses from there. I also bought a top for christmas which everyone commented on when I wore it and it was something like £25. With dress barn you need to think ahead, will I need a long dress at Christmas for a party etc. I purchased a straight really slimming, flowery dress from there in the sale for $25 and people always comment that I look nice in it. I think the key to shopping in Orlando when you are bigger, is just to have fun and enjoy being able to go into many department stores and have clothes that fit.

the plus size juicy won't be in the juicy store...
to find plus size clothing you typically have to go to either speciality plus size stores, or to the plus size department in department stores...

juicy is most likely going to be in the plus size depts of Saks Fifth Avenue or Macy's....possibly in nordstroms as well..

for anyone looking for better quality designer clothes, those are the stores i would try.

all 3 are in the florida mall...

of the 3, the most expensive is saks....macy's and nordstrom are about the same...

less expensive plus size clothes can be found at target, kmart, walmart, Avenue (i forgot about that store - i don't like their clothes, but they definitely have a big selection), etc etc...
also at Kohls, but i'm not sure where they're located...probably also in the vacinity of the florida mall but i'm not sure...

you can also sometimes find stuff at Marshalls and TJ Max, though i'm not sure if they have stores in orlando.....they're discount stores...i'll check to see if they have orlando area stores.....and loehmans too....i'll check online,,..

Depending on where you are staying you could also check out Bealls and Stein Mart, both have fantastic selections on one vists and nothing on another, but we always check them out just in case!

Didn't spend much time looking at clothes (more of a shoe girl) but I did discover Adidas clothing out there that will go up to around a size 22. I was totally amazed as I'm an 18 and relly struggle with decent gym wear in the UK. Wish I'd bought more now.

Can't wait to check out those apple bottom jeans!

just to let you know you can get adidas and other branded sportswear up to a size 24 on www.simplybe.co.uk

and I bought apple bottom jeans when I was in Florida last, they're great! (if a little long but then most jeans are on me!)

:thumbsup2s'pose us plus sizers aren't considered the best advert for sportswear!
Seriously though. I'll be spending more clothes shopping time in Orlando next year.

I noticed this trip that the Juicy outlet store DOES have their X range from time to time. I am a 16 UK and the Juicy normal XL can fit or not fit depending on the style so I tried a 0X from their plus size range but that was too large :confused3 It's annoying. Also I find Juicy's X range does not have all the pretty design's they are usually just plain which again is annoying.

I personally shop in Orlando because a Juicy tee shirt which could run £70 here in the UK I can pick up for $25. Same for Ed Hardy who just had a $50 all hoodies sale, these run for over £150 here. Macy's is just wonderful and with the further 10% discount for UK visitors it really is cheaper for me to buy designer names rather than Top Shop and the such here in the UK.

Another fave of mine, in fact prob my all time fave, is Marshalls. They sell top brand names, mostly past season, for a fraction of the price. I like Ross too but prefer Marshalls.

It's not in Orlando, but there is an online plus size costume store that has Disney costumes for kids and adults, including accessories and wigs. There are definitely some non-Disney appropriate items in the mix there as well, but you can just search for Disney to find what you are looking for.

as this thread has bumped back up I thought I'd add to it

I was surprisingly restrained on our trip ... disappointed at the stock in Torrid, very happy with 3 tops from Lane Bryant at the Prime Outlet which were either $12 or $14 each and very very happy with my $6 Tommy Hilfiger top from Macys (I also bought two of their own brand tops for work which I'm wearing all the time). I also found xxl in Gap ladies fitted me ... and I'm a 24 in a top on a good day ... so I was happy :)

i am still confused by the sizes ... im 22/24 can anyone convert for me please? x :flower3:

According to this link, from your sizes hun, it seems the US sizes will be a size downwards from ours. So if you see a US 20, that's a UK 22.

Why they can't be the same is beyond me :lmao:

Edit for: This link also shows the sizes if using L, XL etc etc :)
