Pleasure Island to become Hyperion Wharf

Hi Andrew, hmmm doesn't do too much for me until I find out what restaurants and entertainment options are going in. Will something unique like the old Adventurer's Club be a part of it? Right now it just sounds like a well-themed Mall. Time will tell.

I agree Dave, it's too early to get our hopes up yet, but I like that it looks like they are putting an emphasis on theming. I'm guessing that with the early Hollywood theme and the fact that they are increasing dining options by 25%, there will be at least one well themed choice.

I don't think Adventurer's Club, or even anything like it, is coming back. However, I think Disney knows how much the faithful misses the place, and will hopefully have something in mind to fill that void.

my question is will it all close down at 11pm like the current version does? It still offers nothing to do late at night. Maybe I don't wanna just go to another restaurant and eat. Plus Disney is known for cuts when they release concept art, I'd be surprised if it turns out that way, but that's just me.

Close a club with a million dollar light show and put a light show outside instead...whatever

I am excited to see that they are finally doing something with that area. It was so nice to see the crowds walking through during the Festival of the Masters. I never went to the Adventurers Club so I don't have anything to compare it to.

It's been YEARS since I went to the Adventurer's Club (and I mean years before it closed!) but I seem to remember it was a themed, interactive comedy club.

Sayhello

I went to the Adventurers Club every night during my trips. I had purchased the Pleasure Island AP because of that. While the scripts for the shows were the same thing each night, the rotation of the actors and the huge amount of room for improvisation made the Club a place worthy of repeat visits. Some actors bounced back and forth between the Adventurers Club and Comedy Warehouse. Both places were fun to visit.

It's sad because I had something to do at night, and now...I really don't. I like Jellyrolls, but not enough to visit it every night.

I really wish there was a place to showcase the talent every night again.

Does this sound a lot like Paradise Pier at Disney California Adventure, but without the attractions? I sure hope not!

I had that same exact thought. However, it seems like the description and artist renderings do not match. This really reminds me of the Downtown Disney in California which I absolutely LOVED! :thumbsup2

With that being said, I honestly don't think they can recreate DTD from CA in WDW. I also feel very strongly that they need nighttime entertainment for adults both old and young. They're really being ignorant in not addressing that complaint that has been dominant since PI closed.

I know folks have great memories of Pleasure Island....but in the years just prior to it's closing, Pleasure Island was not an appealing place to be at night.

I know that the Adventurer's Club has it's vocal supporters, but most nights it was v e r y quiet inside the clubs.

The support just wasnt there and what was there didnt seem Disney friendly.

Church Street Station suffered the same fate. These places used to be JUMPING, but tastes change.

Anything that revitalizes this dead area of prime real estate has to be better than what's there now.

I'm with Kevin in this one I am sure Disney thought about what would appeal to people to bring them into the DTD area. Hopefully it has been thought out well and there will be a good balance of entertainment, shopping and restaurants that will appeal to various people.

A series of decisions, beginning with the poor design of the west side ultimately doomed PI.

The thing is, CW and AC were both edgy enough to be considered adult entertainment without causing a big problem with children outside. There is no reason Disney couldn't incorporate the same kind of entertainment into the new concept. I personally think they could have kept at least one of the nightclubs, most likely 8-trax since it appeals to a broad age group. It was the busiest and most profitable club.

My point is that while the PI concept being slowly choked by the neck until it could no longer breathe, they could have kept some adult options in this "bold new vision"

Of course it remains to be seen what they are ACTUALLY putting on PI. Concept art doesn't really give specifics.

My understanding is CSS was killed because PI was built. Disney did it bigger and better and that is what attracted people. Eisner didn't want to lose all the money that was being sent to CSS.
