Pleasure Island Rumor

Wasn't there A Rumor that there would be a magic club type restaurant opened over there at some point too? I want to say it was some sort od David Copperfield thing? It has been awhile since i heard about it. We have not been to PI in a few years. The last time we went we went to Mannequins, it was ok but I am not into that techno-all songs sound the same-neverending music type of place. We went to 8-trax and it suited us much better but was packed. Then we went to Comedy warehouse and loved it. We did go into AC but we must have missed something or left too soon because we did not see anything great. In any case, the new entrance policy stinks in my opinion. I don't want to walk around after drinking when kids are there. It does need to be revamped in some way. So here is another question. Since thier premium pass includes PI and DQ, what will be the reason for the cost if PI is closed? I won't pay the same $$ for just water parks (not even a choice really when we go in Dec/Jan) and DQ.

Nooooo....they shouldn't do this!! Take it back to pay for admission, it was great that way. I would be so upset if the Adventurers Club was gone, one of our very, very favorite places of all time!

See now, I think they can easily do away with the dance clubs, and they should just keep The Adventurer's Club and The Comedy Club. That's all I really liked in Pleasure Island. You know, it's all about me. ;)

The David Copperfield restaurant was supposed to be at the entrance to MGM. There was a store at PI (or about to be one), the land was cleared at MGM, but then his under construction restaurant in NYC ran out of money and never opened.

So now all you parent's who think that it's alright to bring your kids to PI, even though many adults go there to get away from other people's children, now you can be happy to know you've caused PI to go away.

Ok, now that has been said, (since someone was going to say it).

I'll just say what I am feeling. . .is this confirmed yet? That should be the real concern. I mean, they just spent a lot of money to build the Irish Pub. I hate rumors.

I can not see Disney getting rid of it completley... possibly revamping it, but not destroying it. I also do not think that kids should be allowed in there, and I have a kid. Why you would take your kid into a bar or a bar/party like area is beyond me :confused3 :confused3
That being said last time I was at PI you had to be 18 to get in when did they change this and why??? Keep in mind the last time I went tp PI was 3 years ago... I was so looking forward to taking DH there he calls it Paradise Island :rotfl2: :rotfl2: , he has never been and now he may never get to go.

Ok, hubby and I do have to do some clubs this trip before they all go away.

I wonder if it doesn't have to do with the fact that kids can roam free through there now and it isn't over 18 only type thing. I know when they did that change it turned a lot of people off so maybe they took their business elsewhere.
That's what I was thinking too. I remember that there was a thread not long ago about under 21s hanging around outside clubs and getting others to buy them drinks. It sounded like it was really pretty "seedy" looking for people to go over there. I wonder if that was a major reason for the downturn-I know the teenagers hanging around outside the club looking for alcohol didn't sound like it would be a great place to go.

I really hope they keep AC. When DH and I were there last month we went into Mannequins and Motion and both were deserted but Comedy Warehouse was still full shows and AC is always a hit.

I will be upset too, if the Adventures Club is closed. We really enjoy it.
That said, we were really turned off by PI on our trip 3 weeks ago. It was actually an unpleasant evening and we talked about whether we would return or not.
They do need to do something!

Care to elaborate? What happened?

I've never been to PI, but this trip will only be my 3rd - I'm still trying to fit in all the rides! But I'd hate to lose my chance to see the Adventurers Club. . .

I read in a different article (can't find it now) that the West End stage was going away along with the nightly fireworks. I was really disappointed when they got rid of the Ultimate Park Hopper pass (unlimited entry to plus features) since we used to go to PI almost every night. Now that it uses one of the pluses I couldn't go every night without paying separate admission and forget about getting into the water parks or DQ too.

Ok, I also have to say this:
PI should be for ages 21 and over. I remember being 18 and SOOO wanting to get into clubs and just not being old enough. It stinks, but there is a reason why the drinking age is 21 and over. I don't know about anyone else, but i really miss being able to go to PI and walk from club to club, buying jello shots along the way or those little beaker things filled with a drink. I am not a big drinker in every day life. Frankly I rarely even have so much as a glass of wine, BUT when I am on vacation and kids are either at a kid's club, or home with Grandma, and I don't have to drive, I would like to be a grown up and spend a nice evening reliving my youth with my husband. The last time I was at PI (before the kids were allowed in and you still had to pay) I saw some of the 18 year olds trying to get their over 21 friends to buy them drinks and I am happy to say their friends would not do it. I think it is awful that this is the possible reason for the age change rule allowing the kids in but what else could it be? If they are only going to serve the drinks in the clubs, then there is no worry of what goes on in the street so why not allow kids? Umm how about because people get drunk and then wander up and down the street acting like fools (yet having a blast)? I am 33 years old, and if i want to act like a silly fool I should not have to worry about little kiddos being around to observe my horrible example!! I am not hurting anyone, and let's face it-you would have to spend a fortune on those watered down drinks to get anywhere near beligerant or anything close to it. But at the end of a nice day dealing with the kids at the parks, or waiting in lines, sometimes a nice little buzz in in order. This is one reason why the last couple of trips we have not gone to PI (2 trips this year after the age change). We should as adults be able to enjoy an adult atmosphere. The hours alone of PI dictate adult fun. Kids can't get into the Clubs so why allow them? So parents can shop at the stores there that are open during the day? No wonder attendance is slipping. They should keep the clubs that are doing well, revamp the ones that are not and turn it back into the PI it was made to be, hence the name PLEASURE Island not Pesky Prude Pediatric Island. Ok there. Now I have vented! Sorry if i offended any parents that like to take their children to PI.

I must admit that I had an encounter withthe seedier side of DTD this past summer. We were on the West side and I needed to take my 9yo to the bathroom--the ones that face SSR. Back behind there were a serious number of unattended youths that made the experience a little scary--smoking, swearing, harrasing the patrons as they came in and out of the rest rooms. I teach High School so I know kids being kids and this was not kids being kids. That said a few minutes after we left the bathrooms they were closed off and there were police. Not a really Disney Like experience, and I really had a creepy unsafe feeling about it. As for PI I love the AC and CC, don't think they need to do much with those, to put all restaurants in there would be a shame. I would really miss my adult evening out!

justlikeeeyore - Not likely, given that there's already a Hard Rock Cafe (with attached concert hall) at City Walk :)

Keeping the CW and removing the AC would be just wrong. Both clubs outpace the dance clubs for attendance.

Unfortunately, that is not true.

Disney has tried to make PI all things to all people and has only wound up failing everyone. You can't have an area be both a family friendly night spot and an adult playground. It just doesn't work. It ends up being a poor excuse for both. They need to pick one and stick with it. Either ditch the club concept, keep a few of the Disney-esque ones (Comedy Club and AC), replace the rest with restaurants and combine it with the rest of DD, or go back to adults-only and don't allow anyone in who is under 21 PERIOD. None of this kids are okay accompanied by a parent crap, and I'd even go so far as to not allow anyone 18-20 either. Either make it an adult entertainment area or don't. (Personally, I hope they do go back to closing it off and only allow 21 and up.)

I would have frequented PI every trip if the kid's clubs were a reasonable price. Last trip, for our anniversary we went to VA and the price was $10/hr/child with a four hour minimum. That's $80 for two children and if you factor in an hour each way using Disney transportation, it leaves very little time. Also, you must book in advance, leaving very little spontaneity.

We usually travel for a 10 night trip and would love at least one night out without the kids but I can't justify spending $100 for the kids club and then probably another $100 at PI.

I wonder if an onsite walkup onsite kids club would have helped.

DITTO! ::yes::

Can anyone explain how you get into the clubs? Is there a charge per club?
I've been to WDW about 20+ times, and since the kids were young, my DH and I kept putting it off. Now, we'd like to try PI club scene. How does it work?
