Pleasure Island Rumor

From the latest Park Update at mouseplanet.com:

A recent rumor that we've heard states that days are numbered for the entire lake side of Pleasure Island. Last week, we reported that "major enhancements" would be cause the end of the nightly fireworks at Pleasure Island and demolition of the West End Stage and Hub Stage. It turns out that there is more to the story.

The story, as we heard it, is that attendance has been down so badly at the Pleasure Island clubs that, even with extending Cast Member nights to five nights per week, they were still having trouble getting people into the clubs. Because of this, everything on the lake side of Pleasure Island will be demolished, and the area will be repopulated by contracted restaurants. Contracted restaurants have been the biggest money maker for Disney in the Downtown Disney area.

The rumor gives some time in early 2006 as the target date for the closure of the clubs and the beginning of the demolition. Should the rumor prove out, the only clubs to remain would be Mannequins, 8-Trax and the Comedy Warehouse. The rumor also states that another restaurant will be built at the far west end of Downtown Disney, between Cirque du Soleil and the Saratoga Springs Resort. If anybody has more information about this rumor, please let us know.

It will be interesting to watch this rumor. New restaurants would be nice and I bet they add some additional shops. But.....that means the Adventurer's Club goes away?!

I had heard this too! I will admit to not being a regular there since I won't take DD but I sure with miss Adventure Club on my solo visits. Better sneak one in soon.

Kungaloosh :drinking1

Oh Please keep Adventurers Club!!!

Also, I'm confused: "a new restraunt between Cirque and Saratoga Springs resort." Aren't these at opposite ends of DTD?

I hope this isn't true  DH and I were hoping to get to Pleasure Island in May....we didn't get to go in September and I was so looking forward to going in May.

I was just thinking the same thing.....

Ok, hubby and I do have to do some clubs this trip before they all go away.

I wonder if it doesn't have to do with the fact that kids can roam free through there now and it isn't over 18 only type thing. I know when they did that change it turned a lot of people off so maybe they took their business elsewhere.

well I know that if you walk far enough past the cirque, you get to a golf course, and there is a small bridge, you can go over that and get to sarratoga.

I hope this is not true. I love the Adventurers Club! I would not mind a redesign of the area, but I hope they keep Adventurers Club. It is so unique.

I will be upset too, if the Adventures Club is closed. We really enjoy it.
That said, we were really turned off by PI on our trip 3 weeks ago. It was actually an unpleasant evening and we talked about whether we would return or not.
They do need to do something!

No more Adventurers Club would be awful. I love that place.

::MickeyMo So ridiculous. Did they ever think that the reason attendance might be down is because of their new entrance policy? ::MinnieMo

At one point, if you wanted to do anything at night, the only thing was Church Street Station. you won't find much Church Street Station now (DD took it's crowds).
Universal's City Walk had somewhat of the same effect on Pleasure Island.

I'd be really sad to hear they closed DD.

I would really hope they keep the AC. Whenever we have been it has been packed - and we travel during off season. It is really a 'Disney' experience, whereas I could take or leave the dance clubs. It is true that if a club is empty is really is a waste - noone wants to shake their booty to an empty dancefloor - someone might see them!! :rotfl:

Anyway, if they leave the Comedy Warehouse, I would hope they would think of AC along the same vein.

Well quite frankly, Disney only built Pleasure Island to compete with Citywalk. I love everything Disney and wont go to Universal as I just dont think it has great atmosphere. However, Citywalk is much better than Downtown disney.

I dont club but just like going to Citywalk and relaxing and walking around and having a nice dinner at Margaritaville.

I think there are a lack of "quality" restaraunts outside of the parks but on/near the property. This may be very positive.

Citywalk was built to compete with Pleasure Island and Boardwalk (not necessarily in what exactly was there, but in terms of keeping people there in the evening).
PI was there for a long time before Citywalk was built.

Pleasure Island was in existence before City Walk - I believe Universal buit City Walk to compete with Pleasure Island.

I will be so disappointed if AC is closed! It's the kind of place I go to WDW to enjoy - something uniquely Disney. We make sure to visit every trip and always enjoy it. It will be terrible if it is replaced with another chain restaurant, the kind of place you could see anywhere.

ok I get ya. I didn't know that as I dont frequent it that often.

however if you all have been to Citywalk, you'll know why DTD is in trouble (if that's true).

While I dont think DTD is bad, it is just not up with Citywalk right now.

If you just go clubbing you may not care but if you like overall atmosphere and just enjoy hanging out, having a nice dinner, Citywalk is the place to be.

::yes::
Pleasure Island was built in 1989.
Citywalk was completed in 2002 to compete with PI.
I do agree that Citywalk does have more than PI.
